Malaysia: Life association reaches out to gig workers

The Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) and Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) have signed a MoU to collaborate on providing insurance to freelancers or gig workers.
 
LIAM president Anusha Thavarajah said in a statement, “It has been LIAM’s aspiration to provide the best-in-value insurance products for MDEC and its targeted communities.
 
“The Perlindungan Tenang initiative fits this aspiration as we offer six affordable, accessible and easy to understand protection plans for the Malaysian freelancers.”
 
Perlidungan Tenang is an affordable insurance and takaful scheme aimed at getting 75% of the population and micro-enterprises insured by 2020. It is a collaborative effort between the central bank, LIAM, Malaysian Takaful Association and General Insurance Association of Malaysia. A
