The insurance environment

The black tie event took place during a time of great intrigue for the industry as it awaits the findings of the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry. It is expected that the findings could have an impact on the insurance sector. The commissioner, the Honourable Kenneth Madison Hayne AC QC, is expected to submit an interim report no later than 30 September 2018 with a final report by 1 February 2019.? ?

A bit of history

The Australian Insurance Industry Awards were launched in 2004 by the Melbourne office of Asia Insurance Review with the inaugural event attracting 350 attendees to a landmark event in Sydney’s Four Seasons Hotel ballroom.

The main sponsor for the first awards was Fuji Xerox, showing how times have changed. In later years the Australian Insurance Institute (now ANZIIF) was invited to join as co-host – and the awards have grown to become a significant date in the insurance industry calendar down under.
