Emerging markets face a $5.4tn shortfall in pensions and retirement funds

Workers in emerging markets are retiring without sufficient assets to cover their pension needs, creating a total pension shortfall of about $106tn, according to a report by Swiss Re Institute. This gap between emerging markets' pension assets and pension income need is about $40,000 for every worker - roughly 8.5 times the average annual worker's income.
