China:Mutual insurance plan designed for medical professionals

24 Nov 2017

A new mutual insurance plan for medical staff members is expected to be launched next year, to provide protection against medical accidents.

"Covering all the 2.9 million medical workers in China, the mutual insurance, initiated by Cncare, will greatly encourage famous and experienced doctors to work in multiple hospitals, especially in private medical institutions," said Ms Han Xiaohong, Chairman of Health Management and Health Insurance Society.

Cncare offers a mutual help platform for medical professionals, especially doctors, reported China Daily. All doctors, including those who work in public hospitals, can buy the insurance themselves.

The insurance for physicians has been authorised by China Medical Doctor Association and the Chinese Non-governmental Medical Institutions Association, Ms Han said, stressing that the insurance will promote the development of private medical institutions in China and help ease the difficulty of ordinary people gaining access to a doctor.

With the promotion of healthcare reform by the central government, China's non-public medical institutions have seen unprecedented development.

Meanwhile, seven insurance companies, including PICC and Sunshine Insurance, have signed contracts with Ciming (Bo'ao) International Hospital through Cncare, to provide insurance for the patients of the hospital.
