Disasters do not discriminate. They affect whole communities. Disasters, however, impact women and men differently. According to a recent report published by the United Nations Development Programme and UN Women applying a gender lens to disaster risk reduction initiatives addresses gender-specific capacities and needs in a population and the ability of a community to face and recover from disasters.
