| 16 Nov 2018

Hannover Re's long-serving executive board member Juergen Graeber passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on November 9, 2018 at the age of 62.

“We are deeply shocked by the news of his unexpected death,” said CEO of Hannover Re Ulrich Wallin.

“We mourn the loss of a colleague and friend who, with exemplary commitment, a pronounced sense of responsibility and a strong human touch, has earned himself a lasting reputation within and outside our company,” Mr Wallin added. “For more than 37 years, Juergen Graeber’s name was closely linked to the successful development of our company of which he was driving force.”

In Asia, Jugen will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by many as a “very dear friend and someone who stood for logic in the industry”. As an inspiring reinsurance professional, he was highly  principled and was very passionate about nurturing the industry. He was a frequent speaker at AIR events and was one of the innovative leaders who keynoted our ART Conferences at the turn of the century. He was always proactive in wanting to bring new blood and talent into the market.

The supervisory board of Hannover Re will deal with the succession in a timely manner.
