Increasing shadow banking investments could pressure some insurers

A sharp increase in exposure to shadow banking assets with weaker credit quality could put pressure on Chinese insurers' capitalization, according to Standard & Poor's Ratings Services. Loosening of regulations on investments, along with Chinese insurers' desire to enhance investment yields and diversify their investment portfolios, over the last two decades has attracted more and more of the sector's assets to shadow banking products.
