Mr Yasuzo Kanasugi
chairman, The General Insurance Association of Japan

To commemorate the East Asian Insurance Day (18 October), which was established by the East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC), I would like to send my heartfelt greetings on behalf of the General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ).

The EAIC, which held its first congress in Tokyo on 18 October 1962 with only around 20 overseas participants, has grown into the largest insurance congress in Asia with more than 2,000 attendees from 23 countries and regions.

With the purpose of promoting the role and importance of insurance, as well as the activities of the EAIC in each region, the East Asian Insurance Day was enacted at the 23rd congress held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei in 2006.

This year, we are holding our 13th annual day. As it is held with the cooperation of all members, I believe that this event is very beneficial for the development of a sound insurance industry as well for the prosperity of East Asian society.

On the East Asian Insurance Day, the GIAJ will implement the following initiatives to promote understanding of the activities of the EAIC:
  1. Exhibit displays at the GIAJ, which introduce the purpose, history and activities of the EAIC to our visitors.
  2. Utilise the GIAJ’s website and insurance business publications for communication and public affairs.

Society and the economic environment that surrounds it are changing ever more rapidly due to the effects of technological innovation and climate change, etc. I hope that the East Asian Insurance Day serves as a good opportunity for everyone who works within the industry in all regions to reaffirm the role and importance of insurance for economic and social progress as well as the responses to these changes.

I offer my warmest congratulations on this commemorative day, and hope that the East Asian insurance market will continue to progress far into the future.

Mr Jae-Koo Lee
EAIC committee member for Seoul and secretary general of the Seoul Organizing Committee for the 30th East Asian Insurance Congress.

It is my great pleasure to celebrate the 13th East Asian Insurance Day on behalf of the General Insurance Association of Korea and Seoul Organizing Committee (SOC) for the 30th East Asian Insurance Congress.

The East Asian Insurance Day, since its beginning in 2006, has established itself as a day of great significance that reminds us of the pivotal role insurance plays in the lives of individuals, families, businesses and entire communities.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to offer my deepest gratitude to all those people who contributed to instituting this special day.

In line with the East Asian Insurance Day, the East Asian Insurance Congress, one of the most crucial events in the global insurance industry, is held every other year, embodying the day’s true spirit and purpose.

Next year, the 30th EAIC will be held in Seoul for four days from 30 August to 2 September with the theme of ‘2020, A Brave New Decade for Insurance’, signifying that next year will mark the commencement of a new decade.

As the organisers, the General Insurance Association of Korea and the Korea Life Insurance Association are making an all-out effort to make the event successful.

As a part of the effort, we presented the roadmap towards the EAIC 2020 with our preparation status to the EAIC executive board members last August.

I believe the 30th EAIC will serve as an opportunity for in-depth discussions on what insurance should aim for in the era of technological innovations and how the industry can maintain its growth momentum in the face of emerging global trends such as ageing societies and customer-centric culture.

The SOC truly wishes for the EAIC 2020 to be a stepping stone for the East Asian insurance industry to move on to the next step.

We kindly request your presence in Seoul next year and hope you will be part of the 30th EAIC. A
