AXA reshuffles senior leadership team
Mr Jean Drouffe, who is currently CEO of the West Region of AXA France, will replace Ms Gaëlle Olivier as CEO of AXA Asia P&C, and will be reporting to Mr Jean-Laurent Josi, CEO of AXA Asia. Ms Olivier in turn, has been appointed CEO of AXA Enterprises, and will be reporting to Mr Nicolas Moreau, Chairman & CEO of AXA France. Both appointments will be effective 1 January 2016.
 
   Meanwhile, Mr Jad Ariss, currently CEO of AXA Enterprises and deputy CEO of AXA France, is appointed CEO of AXA’s activities of the Middle East, the Gulf region and Africa. He will report to Mr Jean-Laurent Granier, CEO of the insurer’s operations in the Mediterranean and Latin America region. His appointment also takes effect from 2016.
 
 
Asia: Generali creates new M&A and strategy role
Mr John Spence has joined Generali Asia’s management team in a newly-created role as Regional Head, Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategy for Asia. He reports to Mr Jack Howell, who is Regional Officer for Generali Asia.
 
   In his new position, Mr Spence will be responsible for formulating and executing mergers and acquisitions, fostering strategic alliances and partnerships and leading regional corporate development initiatives to achieve Generali’s ambitious growth targets in Asia.
 
 
Asia: MetLife appoints Chief Distribution Officer
MetLife has promoted Mr Bharat Khannan to the newly-created role of Chief Distribution Officer for Asia, where he will lead all intermediated distribution channels in the region. 
 
   He will continue to be based in Tokyo and will have Asia-wide responsibility for agency, bancassurance, employee benefits and global relationship management channels. He will also partner with in-country distribution leaders to drive value growth through disciplined distribution management.
 
 
QBE unveils new appointments for Asia Pacific region 
Mr Mark Lingafelter has been appointed as Managing Director of QBE Insurance’s Asia Pacific region, and will be accountable for the ongoing execution of the insurer’s Asia Pacific Profitable Growth Strategy and the continued development of the region’s operations into a growth engine for the Group. He will also oversee the underwriting and distribution functions, as well as the management of all QBE operations across Asia Pacific.
 
   Meanwhile, Mr Martin Allan has been appointed General Manager – Claims, Asia Pacific and will be responsible for managing the claims function and driving business efficiencies to deliver an enhanced value proposition for the insurer’s customers in Asia Pacific. He is based in Singapore.
 
 
Asia: Great Eastern names new Group CEO
Great Eastern Holdings has appointed Mr Khor Hock Seng to the role of Group CEO, based in Singapore. The appointment will take effect from 2 November. He is currently CEO of Aviva Asia and Friends Provident International (FPI), and will be stepping down at the end of this month.
 
   A veteran in the industry, Mr Khor has over 30 years of insurance experience and has held a wide range of leadership positions in actuarial, operations, sales and marketing, and general management at Manulife, Hong Leong, British American Life & General, and Malaysian American Insurance. Prior to his appointment and current role, he was chief executive and managing director of AIA’s Malaysian business.
 
 
Asia: Towers Watson appoints risk consulting and software lead
Towers Watson announced the appointment of Mr Richard Collis as Managing Director, Regional Leader, Risk Consulting and Software, Asia Pacific. In his new role which is based in Hong Kong, he reports to Mr Michael Murphy, Managing Director and Global Leader, Risk Consulting and Software. 
 
Australia: BHSI enters construction insurance market
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI) has said it is providing comprehensive insurance and services for the construction industry in Australia and named a team of executives to oversee key areas of its construction business.
 
   They include: Mr Cameron Holmes, Construction Manager; Mr Rob McNab, Underwriting Manager, Construction; Mr Mark Thompson, Senior Underwriter, Casualty; Mr Patrick Whyte, Risk Engineering Manager; and Mr David Cook, Claims Manager.
 
 
Hong Kong: Quality Healthcare names CEO
Private healthcare organisation Quality Healthcare has announced the appointment of Dr Joseph Soon as CEO. He joins Quality Healthcare from the Raffles Medical Group, where he held the position of General Manager – Medical & 
Dental.
 
 
Indonesia: Zurich unveils new leaders
Zurich Insurance has appointed Mr Philippe Danielski as President Director of PT Zurich Insurance Indonesia and Mr Peter Huber as President Director of PT Zurich Topas Life, Indonesia. 
 
   Mr Danielski joins the company from AIG where he led the strategic expansion of its consumer business, whilst Mr Huber moves internally from the role of Singapore CEO for Zurich’s global life business. Both leaders will be charged with driving Zurich’s strategy for growth in the country. 
 
 
Japan: Coface appoints country manager
Mr Yoshihiro Suchi has been appointed Country Manager of Coface in Japan, based in Tokyo, taking over from Mr Bruno Tavernier. In his role, Mr Suchi will oversee the business development and the operations of Coface’s trade credit insurance and services activities in Japan. Prior to joining Coface, he was the General Manager of Specialty Lines Department of AIU General Insurance Co Ltd in Tokyo.
 
 
Singapore: Markel adds to its trade credit team
Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Mr Bennett Wong as assistant trade credit underwriter in its Singapore office. He joins Markel from United Overseas Bank where, he was vice president of the structured trade and commodity finance. He also has extensive experience in the banking sector and has worked for Banques Arabes et Francaises and Australia & New Zealand Banking Group in Singapore.
 
 
Singapore: New senior appointment for Crawford & Company
Crawford & Company has appointed Mr Phillip Fong as Managing Director for its operation in Singapore. Mr Fong joins the company in Singapore from its operation in Malaysia, where he has worked for 24 years as managing director of Crawford & Company Adjusters (Malaysia) and – for the past six years – also as Vice President, Global Markets for Asia. In his new role, he will be responsible for the management of the Singapore operations.
 
 
Singapore: Dr Shaun Wang joins NTU
Dr Shaun Wang has joined the faculty of Nanyang Business School at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore as a Professor of Actuarial Science. He will lead research programmes on climate risks and extreme events, cyber risks and long-term investments, and seek more collaborations with established insurance organisations in Singapore.
Prior to his appointment, he was Deputy Secretary General for renowned insurance think-tank The Geneva Association.
 
 
Sri Lanka: Mr Manjula de Silva is Chairman of state-owned reinsurer
Mr Manjula de Silva has taken up the role of Chairman of the National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF), Sri Lanka’s state-owned reinsurer earlier this year. He was previously Managing Director of HNB Assurance plc.
 
 
Global: Argo announces new CRO
Global specialty underwriter Argo Group has appointed Mr Alex Hindson as Chief Risk Officer. He joins the Group from Amlin AG where he served as chief risk officer for the company’s Bermuda and Zurich operations.
 
 
Global: Emmanuel Clarke to lead PartnerRe
Partner Re Ltd has announced that Mr Emmanuel Clarke has been appointed President and will be responsible for leading and managing all of the company’s operations. Meanwhile, Mr David Zwiener, Interim President and CEO since January will continue in this interim role until he brings EXOR’s acquisition of PartnerRe to a successful close, at which point he will step down.
 
   Mr Charles Goldie will take over Mr Clarke’s former position of CEO of PartnerRe Global and head its executive team.
 
 
Global: SCOR brings in Nicolas Tissot as COO
Mr Nicolas Tissot has joined SCOR as the Group’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). Reporting to Chairman and CEO Denis Kessler, he is charged with implementing the means necessary to reinforce operational excellence and providing the Group’s business units with the support that they need. He also joins the SCOR group Executive Committee.
 
 
Global: Changes in MDRT leadership
Financial professionals association Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) has named Mr Brian D Heckert, as President and Mr Ross Vanderwolf, as Secretary of the organisation’s Executive Committee.
 
   Mr Heckert will assume the role as the 90th President, and lead the association of more than 43,000 international members for a one-year term. He will work with the Executive Committee to identify opportunities for members to broaden their expertise, grow their business and better educate their clients about the importance of a secure financial plan. As Secretary, Mr Vanderwolf will support the efforts of the Executive Committee, and his five-year term will culminate in becoming MDRT President in 2019. 
 
   Further changes include Mr Mark J Hanna, a 27-year MDRT member of Concord, California, who will serve as First Vice President; Mr James Pittman, a 41-year MDRT member of Portland, Oregon, who will serve as Second Vice President; and Mr James V Durkin, a 29-year MDRT member of Vienna, Virginia, who will serve as the MDRT Foundation President, the philanthropic arm of MDRT.
