Asia: Generali names Regional Officer 
Generali has named Mr Roberto Leonardi as Regional Officer for Asia, subject to regulatory approval. He will be responsible for growing and managing Generali’s Life and P&C insurance businesses in the region.
 
   Mr Leonardi reports directly to Mr Frédéric de Courtois, CEO of Global Business Lines & International and will be based in the regional hub in Hong Kong. He has over 25 years of experience in Life and Health businesses across Asia, Europe and South Africa. 

Asia: Chubb announces new Regional Head of Direct Marketing
Chubb has named Mr Marcus Giles its Vice President & Regional Head of Direct Marketing for Asia Pacific. He will report to Mr Glen Browne, Executive Vice President & Regional Head of Accident & Health for Asia Pacific. 
 
   In its statement on the appointment, Chubb noted Mr Giles’ expertise in driving growth for consumer-facing businesses and enhancing the customer experience with innovative products and solutions. 

Asia: Pacific Life Re appoints Director, Product Development & Marketing 
Pacific Life Re has appointed Mr David Wright as Director, Product Development & Marketing. 
 
   His key responsibilities lie in the overall delivery of reinsurance services and the promotion of UnderwriteMe to Pacific Life Re’s clients in Thailand. The reinsurer is the majority shareholder in UnderwriteMe, a technology business which provides an underwritten multi-insurer quote comparison service to distributors.
 
   Mr Wright will also support the company’s business growth through the development of new product ideas designed for the Asia market.

Principal Asia Chair Rex Auyeung to retire in June
Principal Financial Group has announced that Mr Rex Auyeung, chairman of Principal Asia, will retire in June 2017 after 23 years of service. Mr Thomas Cheong, currently its vice president of North Asia and Mr Pedro Borda, vice president of South Asia and India, will continue to lead business operations in the region, reporting to Mr Luis Valdes, president of Principal International.
 
   Mr Auyeung joined Principal in 1994 and has led Principal International operations in Asia, which includes Hong Kong, India, China and Southeast Asia. Under his direction, the region has grown to more than US$120 billion AUM. He developed and strengthened relationships in the region through strategic joint venture partnerships including CCB Principal Asset Management in China, Principal Pnb Asset Management in India, and CIMB-Principal Asset Management in Southeast Asia. 

Hong Kong: Xl Catlin appoints new casualty underwriter
XL Catlin in Hong Kong has bolstered its Casualty team with the appointment of Mr Stephen Chow as Casualty Underwriter. He will report to Ms Anna Jzie, Casualty Underwriting Manager.
 
   Mr Chow has over four years of underwriting experience across the Greater China market. He joined XL Catlin from Munich Reinsurance Company in Hong Kong where he focused on treaty and facultative casualty business in the region. 

Malaysia: Gibraltar BSN announces new CEO
Mr Rangam Bir has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Malaysia-based life insurer Gibraltar BSN. He succeeded Mr Tim Thomas, a member of the company’s Board of Directors and CEO on 24 January 2017. 
 
   Mr Thomas will continue his involvement with Gibraltar BSN through his role on the board, and he will resume his business development work for Prudential Financial Inc (PFI) International Insurance division in Asia outside of Japan. 
 
   PFI, through its subsidiary Prudential Insurance Company of America (PICA), and Bank Simpanan Malaysia (BSN), jointly own Gibraltar BSN, which provides its products to Malaysians through a network of agencies and its partnership with BSN and Malaysia’s postal services provider Pos Malaysia Berhad.

Indonesia: New APPARINDO Board of Council announced
APPARINDO, the Association of Indonesian Insurance and Reinsurance Brokers, elected its new Board of Council for the period of 2016-2019 on 17 January in Jakarta.
 
   The members of the new Board of Council are as follows:
  • Mr Harry Purwanto, SE, CIIB (Chairman)
  • Mr Yulius Bhayangkara, SIP, BSC, ANZIIF, CIIB (Vice Chairman Division I)
  • Drs Joko Purwanto, AAAIK, MM (Vice Chairman Division II)
  • Mr Mohammad Jusuf Adi, SE, MM, CIIB (Secretary General)
  • Mr Primo Fortasiano, Mech Eng, CIIB (Deputy Secretary General)
  • Mr Sutisna, SE (Treasurer)
  • Ms Sherlyana, SE, AAIK, ICPU, ICBU (Deputy Treasurer)

Philippines: JLT Re appoints Managing Director
JLT Re has named Mr William Pang as Managing Director for the Philippines, subject to regulatory approval. He will be responsible for the overall management of JLT Re Philippines, focusing on strategy, market development and team expansion among other areas.
 
   Mr Pang has been with JLT Re for the past five years based out of Singapore, managing clients in Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam and following his new appointment, will still continue to be involved with key clients in Singapore and Vietnam. He will report to Mr Kenny Moyes, CEO of JLT Re Asia. 

South Korea: Second term for incumbent ING Life President
Mr Cheong Mun-kuk, President & CEO of ING Life Insurance, has been appointed for a second term. This will be subject to shareholders’ approval.
MBK Partners, a local private equity firm holding a major stake in the Seoul-based insurer, decided to let Mr Cheong manage the firm for another three years. ING Life Insurance plans for an IPO in May. 
 
   Mr Cheong took the helm of ING Life Korea after the domestic private equity firm bought the insurer in December 2013. 

Global: Chubb promotes Mr Nikolay Dmitriev to the role of Regional Director of P&C, Eurasia & Africa
Chubb has announced the promotion of Mr Nikolay Dmitriev to the new role of Regional Director of P&C, Eurasia & Africa. He was previously Regional Managing Director – Russia, CIS & Turkey.
 
   In his new role, Mr Dmitriev will lead the development of Chubb’s P&C business across its Eurasia & Africa region. He retains his current duties as Country President for Russia and the CIS, and will continue to be based in Moscow and report to Mr Giles Ward, Regional President for Chubb in Eurasia & Africa. 

Global: Ed appoints new Group CFO and Underwriting CEO 
Ed, the global reinsurance, wholesale and specialty group that was formerly known as Cooper Gay, has appointed Mr Neil Perry as Group CFO. Mr Perry replaces Mr Russell Benzies, who is leaving the Group. He will take up his role later this year and report to Mr Steve Hearn, Group CEO.
 
   Ed has also named Mr Gary Corke as CEO of Underwriting. In this role, he will be responsible for managing Ed’s Managing General Agents (MGA) across the globe and developing an integrated global MGA business unit. He also reports to Mr Hearn. 

Global: Aon’s Group President Steve McGill steps down
Aon’s group president Steve McGill has left the firm to explore new opportunities, announced Aon plc a statement. He was also the chairman and CEO of Aon’s risk solutions business, which comprises Aon Risk Solutions and Aon Benfield. 
 
   Mr Eric Andersen, CEO of Aon Benfield and Mr Mike O’Connor, CEO of Aon Risk Solutions, will work together to jointly build Aon’s global risk business and report directly to Aon plc president and CEO Greg Case. 

Global: Argo Group names new head of reinsurance
Argo Group International Holdings has named former Ariel Re CEO Ryan Mather as its global head of reinsurance, leading all reinsurance operations. The appointment was announced on 7 February, a day after Argo Group closed the acquisition of Ariel Re.
 
   The Ariel Re brand will be retained as a member of Argo Group, and Mr Mather will report directly to Mr Jose A. Hernandez, head of Argo Group’s International Business.

Global: Navigators appoints inaugural cyber leader
The Navigators Group, Inc has announced the appointment of Mr Jacob Ingerslev to the newly created position of Global Practice Leader for Cyber Liability. He will be responsible for leading Navigators’ Cyber Liability practice, including product development, line management and advancement of the company’s global cyber initiative. 
 
   Mr Ingerslev will focus on further enhancing the company’s suite of cyber and technology insurance products and expanding their reach to the various marketplaces in which Navigators operates globally. He will report to Mr Vincent C. Tizzio, President of US Insurance, and Mr Michael J. Casella, President of International Insurance.
