Gap between insured and economic NatCAT losses in Asia lowest since 2012

SwissRe sigma reported that 2017 saw the highest insured losses in a single year, mainly due to the combined hits of hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. However, the typically embattled Asian region saw a respite in 2017, with economic and insured losses substantially lower than the 2000-2016 norms and the lowest since 2009 (economic) and 2012 (insured).
