India's missing insurance ombudsmen

The inordinate delay by the government in filling up the post of insurance ombudsman in many regions across the country has affected the morale of numerous policy holders, who are awaiting settlement of their claims, which have been partially or totally repudiated by insurers. The Executive Council of Insurers (ECOI), which appoints the ombudsman, has called for applications for this post and is expected to take a decision later this year.
