From 1 April onwards, Hong Kongers will be able to participate in the region's new Voluntary Health Insurance Scheme (VHIS) and purchase individual indemnity hospital insurance products from participating insurers. These products will be certified by the government's Food and Health Bureau (FHB) and will be referred to as certified plans. In order to provide an incentive for the public to purchase certified plans, the government will allow a tax deduction for relevant premiums paid under the VHIS.
