UAE:Premiums insufficient to cover costs in mandatory health insurance scheme

Mandatory health insurance for employers in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai does not provide for high enough premium income to cover the costs of claims. Averaging around AED500 ($136) to AED600 per person per annum for entry-level cover, the premium is simply not adequate, says Mr Mark Adams, chairman of The Healthcare Network, a Dubai-based firm which provides shared services to healthcare operators.
