| 15 Oct 2019

The Insurance and Financial Practitioners Association of Singapore (IFPAS) commemorated its 50th year in Singapore with a gala dinner on 11 October 2019 at Ocean Restaurant, S.E.A Aquarium, Resorts World Sentosa.

The event was graced by Guest of Honour, Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, together with some 200 guests comprising IFPAS members and industry partners.

“With a membership of close to 4,000 members, you serve as a very important resource to raise the financial literacy of our society,” said Ms Sim Ann. “By continuing to work together and doing good together, I am certain that all of us can play a part in building a better home for all. I am heartened by the ongoing efforts and I wish IFPAS many more years of successful service for the community and our nation.”

IFPAS, a strong voice in the financial industry, who upholds the ethical and professional standards of the industry, also announced a line-up of community outreach efforts to mark its 50th year.

President of IFPAS, Mr Leong Sow Hoe said, “As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we continue to be committed in representing the financial services industry and its professionals and guarding the public’s interests. This year, we are delighted to work with government agencies, financial institutions and charity organisations to reach out and share our wealth of financial expertise with Singaporeans of all ages, at every stage of their lives.”

IFPAS’s Community Outreach and Services

• Providing financial consultation to young adults as part of the association’s collaboration with MCCY

This year, IFPAS together with Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) will work closely to drive the importance of early financial planning through the use of online videos. Commissioned by MCCY, popular youth platform and content creator – TheSmartLocal, will produce a series of videos to provide informative tips and improve the financial understanding of youths as they transition from school to work, and from singlehood to setting up a family. IFPAS is responsible for crafting the financial advice featured in the videos. The videos will be available by the end of the year.

CareShield Life

With the experience and positive feedback from piloting the 1-to-1 pro bono MediShield Life Consultation, IFPAS members will once again be mobilised to explain the upcoming CareShield Life rollout to Singaporeans on the scheme. Singaporeans will be able to benefit from the knowledge and expertise of the IFPAS members, to better understand what the scheme entails, who is eligible and how they can benefit.

• Bringing joy to NKF beneficiaries

As part of IFPAS’ Association Social Responsibility (ASR), IFPAS introduced the Befriending Programme, providing members with an avenue to organise befriending services at partner organisations like the National Kidney Foundation (NKF). During the sessions, members make conscious effort to interact and keep the patients company during the long dialysis process.

To mark IFPAS’ 50th year, IFPAS donated three dialysis machines to NKF at the gala dinner. The additional machines will help to reduce wait time and increase logistical efficiency at the centre.
