Affordable insurance plan launched to guard against dengue

| 07 Jan 2021

Amid rising threat of Dengue Fever in Singapore, Prudential Singapore has launched PRUSafe Dengue, an affordable insurance plan that provides financial relief to those infected with the mosquito-borne dengue virus.

PRUSafe Dengue customers only need to pay S$5 to receive coverage of S$20,000 against death due to Dengue Fever.

In 2020, more than 34,000 Dengue Fever cases were reported, resulting in 29 deaths. With the Aedes aegypti mosquito population still high in some areas at the end of last year, The National Environment Agency has urged continued vigilance to avoid another dengue outbreak in 2021.

Protecting Singapore’s residents against the country’s largest dengue outbreak is a priority for Prudential, said Mr Stanley Ng, Head of Product, Prudential Singapore.

He continued, “This has been a trying time for Singaporeans from a health perspective, and the dengue outbreak has only added to people’s concerns for their wellbeing. With PRUSafe Dengue, we want to financially protect people from this threat at a cost that will not pinch the pocket.”

For a premium of S$5, PRUSafe Dengue provides the following benefits for a period of three months.

1. Death Benefit – a sum assured of S$20,000 if the life assured dies within 14 days from a Dengue Fever diagnosis.

2. Hospital Cash benefit – S$200 per day up to a maximum of five days if the life assured is hospitalised for Dengue Fever.

3. Get Well benefit – one-time lump sum payout of S$500 if the life assured is diagnosed with Dengue Fever.

PRUSafe Dengue is available to Singapore residents aged between 18 and 69 and can be renewed or repurchased every three months.

Available on Prudential’s Pulse app

“This is the first insurance plan we are offering on the Pulse by Prudential app. Through the app, we want people to be able to access healthcare services and buy simple insurance plans conveniently from anywhere and at any time,” said Mr Ng.

Prudential is making PRUSafe Dengue available for purchase on its Pulse by Prudential digital health and wellness app. The app was launched in April this year as part of the insurer’s region-wide strategy to make healthcare more affordable and accessible. It currently provides all Singapore residents with round-the-clock access to healthcare services and real-time health information and is constantly evolving with new features.
