Australia:General insurers hit by weather events and lower investment income

The general insurance industry in Australia faced a difficult 2021, with a large fall in industry profits due to higher claims costs from weather events, coupled with lower investment income reflecting ongoing financial market volatility, says the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA).
