Asia's healthcare systems are under mounting pressure. Medical costs are rising faster than incomes; populations are ageing, chronic disease is growing, and millions of households still bear the financial burden of illness alone. For insurers, reinsurers, and healthcare providers, incremental change is no longer enough. The 22nd Asia Conference on Healthcare and Health Insurance brings together the region's leading insurers, reinsurers, healthcare providers, regulators and innovators to ask a bolder question: what would health insurance look like if we built it for Asia's next decade?
Population health in the Southeast Asia Region has experienced significant, though uneven, progress over the past two decades. Improvements in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries have contributed to sustained declines in mortality and a corresponding increase in overall life expectancy. Advances in public health infrastructure, vaccination programmes, maternal and child health services, and the management of infectious diseases have all played a pivotal role in extending lives across the Region. However, these gains have not been uniform and, in some cases, have been reversed or attenuated by major health shocks. Unequivocally, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted health systems, strained economies, and led to substantial excess mortality across Member States. Medical trend rates remain persistently high. After averaging close to 11% globally in 2024 and 2025, insurers are again forecasting, for 2026, an 11% year-over-year cost increase for medical plan claims per person. This would mark the sixth straight year of double-digit rises, a clear signal that affordability remains under pressure. (Cited from Health Trends 2026, Marsh)
The region has proven what's possible: longer lives, stronger public health systems, and real progress against disease. But progress without protection is fragile, and today, the gap between what Asia's population needs and what its insurance systems deliver has never been more consequential. Every uncovered household is a risk to economic momentum. Every insurer that adapts is part of the solution. Over the course of the conference, delegates will explore how to contain medical inflation without compromising care, close the health protection gap, harness data and technology to improve outcomes, and build partnerships that make coverage more affordable, sustainable and relevant to Asia's diverse markets.
The future of health insurance in Asia won't be built by those who wait for the landscape to settle; it will be built by those who help shape it now. The conversation starts here.
