China:Tianjin explosions highlight challenges in loss estimation

The 12 August explosions in Tianjin Port last year pose challenges to the insurance industry in areas such as loss estimation and claims adjudication. This is despite what became clear, as first claims were filed, is that damage to thousands of new vehicles would make up most of the insurance claims, according to Swiss Re in its sigma report entitled "Natural catastrophes and man-made disasters in 2015: Asia suffers substantial losses" and released this week.
