The total net profit after tax for the general insurance industry for the year ended 31 March 2016 was A$2.2 billion (US$1.6 billion), 42% down from A$3.8 billion in the previous year, according to data from Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). The decline was due to lower investment income.
