Two premier Asian universities, one in China and the other in Singapore, are among eight teams selected to compete for the fifth Spencer-RIMS Risk Management Challenge at this year's RIMS annual conference in San Antonio, USA. The other teams are from the US and North America.

26 university teams entered the competition for this year. Based on the solutions they developed for a case study provided by the Sage Foundation, the top teams have been invited to present their findings at RIMS 2018 from 15-18 April.

The eight university teams chosen to compete at RIMS 2018 are:

·         British Columbia Institute of Technology (Canada)

·         Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)

·         Peking University (China)

·         Saint Joseph's University (US)

·         St. Mary's University (US)

·         Temple University (US)

·         University of Wisconsin – Madison (US)

·         Virginia Commonwealth University (US)

China’s Peking University, located in the capital, consistently ranks among the top two in the country and is well-known internationally. Last year, it partnered RIMS to provide its students access to the Society's collection of thought-leading risk management knowledge and resources. Its School of Economics’ Department of Risk Management and Insurance, established in 1993, was one of the first five insurance departments approved by China's Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University has been ranked the world’s best young university for four years in a row.

On 15 April, the final three teams will be selected after the first round of presentations. The finalists will present one last time in front of risk professionals at the conference the following day. The winner will be announced at the Spencer reception held during the conference.

The Spencer Educational Foundation is a registered charitable organisation awarding scholarships and grants in risk management and insurance industry. Since its founding in 1979, it has awarded approximately $6.4 million in student and part-time master’s scholarships and $3.25 million in grants to universities, corporations and professional institutions for educational programs, internships and conferences.
