Three risk managers have made it to the list of finalists in the running for the Corporate Risk Manager of the Year title for this year's 22nd Asia Insurance Industry Awards (AIIA).

The risk managers are among 47 finalists who will next head to Singapore on 4 September for a face-to-face interview with the distinguished panel of judges who will then select the winners in a secret ballot. The winners will only be announced at the gala dinner on 29th October, held in conjunction with the 15th Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC).
They will be assessed on how they have effectively enhanced his/her organisation’s risk management and/or contributed to the promotion of risk management in Asia. This requires them to explain how risk management has made a tangible difference to his/her organisation’s operations and/or balance sheet.
The 2017 winner was Mr Roland Teo, who won judges' praise for the leadership and passion he has demonstrated in enhancing the risk management practice at Eastern Health Alliance (EHA), a public regional healthcare system in Singapore where is the Deputy Director of the Risk Management Office. Mr Teo also went above and beyond his job to promote risk management in the country and the region, through his work with risk associations and educational institutions.
The Awards, with strictly defined criteria for each category and a transparent selection process helmed by a bench of 33 judges, saw over 800 entries this year. The Young Leader, Woman Leader, InsurTech, Innovation and Technology Initiative categories saw the most entries. In the first round, the judges have gone through the entries based on a 1,200-word write-up. The entire process is audited by KPMG.
Over the years, the AIIA has become a much sought-after mark of excellence and peer group endorsement for insurance players and professionals in the market. They have been hosted annually since 1997 by Asia Insurance Review, the voice of the insurance industry of Asia for the past almost three decades.
