The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) has released the figures for claims paid out regarding the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake. The earthquake occurred in January 2024.
According to the figures released, insurer total payout reached JPY104.8bn ($726.7m) from 126,698 accepted claims. Of the total number of claims accepted, the highest number was from Ishikawa Prefecture, with 59,948 (JPY57.6bn).
The epicentre of the earthquake was Ishikawa Prefecture, according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
The GIAJ also released the claims figures for the typhoons, windstorms and floods that occurred separately in April 2024, as of 31 March 2025.
The total claims payments made for the weather events mentioned was JPY136bn, with 149,612 accepted claims. Majority of the claims came from coverage of damage to vehicles, with 102,937 accepted claims (JPY83.5bn).
Additionally, the claims figures regarding typhoon Shanshan, which occurred from August to September 2024, were released. A total of 77,469 claims were accepted, totalling JPY54.9bn paid out.
Majority of the claims could be attributed to fire insurance, with 66,463 (JPY47.1bn).
