The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL), the country's insurance regulator, has successfully conducted its inaugural programme to foster collaboration between academia engaged in teaching insurance-related degree programmes and professionals in the insurance industry.
The initiative aims to support the development of undergraduate education by aligning university curricula with the evolving needs of the insurance industry.
For instance, the strengthening of the insurance sector was one of the objectives of the programme, and the vital role of academia in shaping the future of the industry through research, innovation and the development of a skilled talent pool was noted as well.
The synergy between regulators, industry and academia was also identified as essential for building a forward looking, knowledge-driven insurance ecosystem.
The initiative was carried out based on the conceptual suggestion of IRCSL chairman Ajith Raveendra De Mel, and included the participation of 15 senior academic staff members representing eight universities, including the University of Colombo, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.
Representatives from the Actuarial Association of Sri Lanka participated, as well.
