India's insurance regulator, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), has appointed Mr Dinesh Pant as Member (Actuary) and Ms Girija Subramanian as Whole-Time Member (Distribution).
According to news platform The Indian Express, Mr Pant’s appointment to IRDAI follows the government’s approval of the premature termination of his tenure as Managing Director of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), after he opted for voluntary retirement.
His move to IRDAI is expected to bring industry experience, particularly in matters concerning actuarial and life insurance.
Mr Pant has had a long career in the insurance industry, as reflected by his LinkedIn profile. He began his career with LIC in 1989 as an Assistant Administrative Officer, and rose to the position of Managing Director in 2025, until his retirement.
Meanwhile, Ms Subramanian joins IRDAI after serving as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of New India Assurance Company.
In her new role in IRDAI, Ms Subramanian oversees an area central to expanding insurance coverage, including the development of distribution channels and efforts to improve insurance penetration.
