| 12 Jun 2018

A Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Health Management Experts' Joint Committee has been inaugurated in Beijing under the auspices of the Insurance Association of China (IAC).

With closer ties being forged between the commercial insurance and the healthcare industries, the integration of commercial insurance with TCM will promote the role of TCM in health risk management and help insurers.

Dong Feng, deputy chief director of the Acupuncture Hospital of the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences, has been elected as the first secretary-general of the joint committee.

Mr Dong stated, “The purpose of the establishment of this joint committee is to give full play to the professional expertise of well known TCM practitioners, and to tap the benefits and techniques of TCM to improve the health risk management capabilities of the insurance industry, enrich health insurance and promote the development of health insurance, raise the health protection level of the general public, and provide intellectual and technical support to the realisation of national health goals."

The joint committee will help to resolve problems related to TCM in areas like healthcare protection and reimbursement.

The committee will promote health management concepts among insurance consumers and assist the insurance industry in introducing insurance products that meet market needs.
