Mr Walter de Oude, founder and chief executive of the region's first technology-only wealth company, has been conferred the title of Outstanding CEO Of The Year 2018 from a pool of 380 C-suite leaders across the region. The award was presented at InfluentialBrands' 2018 CEO Asia Summit held in Singapore last month. InfluentialBrands is a think-tank formed to gain consumer insights through various methods of research.
Mr de Oude won on sheer force of wanting to start a digital-first insurance and wealth management company, a feat unparalleled across Asia. “Singapore Life is the region’s fastest scaling technology company that focuses on wealth. Singapore Life is also the first independent life insurance company licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore since 1970,” the insurer said in a statement.
Mr de Oude said, “As a digital insurer and wealth manager, Singapore Life’s vision is to change the way people look at growing their cash savings and ensuring a financially-secured retirement. Singapore Life builds itself as an efficient company that seamlessly integrates cutting-edge technology capabilities via a swathe of consumer-centric wealth products so that customers may live their best lives possible.”
The strength of Singapore’s regulatory environment allows for a safe and sound eco-space for wealth planning. Singapore Life leverages offering better value and client experience as consumers embrace preferred technology solutions and insurance capabilities not found in other insurers and wealth companies. Singapore Life is also borne out of a need for insurance and wealth experiences that incorporates technology and transparency into an industry dominated by incumbent organisations mired in traditional practices. As Southeast Asia’s population grows in number and affluence, Singapore Life continues on a path of plugging digital gaps in wealth management and personal protection by harnessing innovative technology.
As a testament to the strength of Singapore Life's capital base, governance and capability, the start-up which began operations in 2017 successfully acquired Zurich Life Singapore’s business portfolio and has achieved more than S$6.6bn ($4.8bn) in life insurance coverage to date.
Apart from Mr de Oude, InfluentialBrands handed the Outstanding CEO of the Year award to two other corporate leaders—Mr Peter Koh, the group CEO of Oceanus Group which is a global producer of farmed seafood, and Mr Shashank Dixit, the founder of Deskera, a leading cloud-based business software provider.
