Indonesia:FSA to draft new health insurance rules

| 08 Jul 2025

Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, or OJK) is set to draft a new regulation aimed at reinforcing the national health insurance framework.

The move follows a working meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI), held in Jakarta on 30 June 2025.

The forthcoming regulation, formally known as a Financial Services Authority Regulation (Peraturan OJK or POJK), is expected to provide a stronger legal foundation and expand the regulatory scope for health insurance oversight. OJK will consult further with Commission XI before finalising the new POJK.

As a result of the upcoming regulation, the provisions outlined in Circular Letter Number 7 of 2025 (SEOJK 7/2025) on the Implementation of Health Insurance Products, which had been scheduled to take effect on 1 January 2026—will be postponed and incorporated into the new POJK.

The revised regulation aims to improve corporate governance and risk management standards across the health insurance sector. It is also expected to generate meaningful benefits for all stakeholders in the ecosystem, including policyholders, insurers, and healthcare providers.

“OJK will continue to strengthen coordination and communication with all stakeholders to build a fair, transparent, and sustainable health insurance ecosystem,” the agency said in a statement, reported Jakartadaily.
