Since the early summer of 2013, a number of emerging countries have experienced substantial capital outflows, causing their currencies to fall and hitting their equity and bond markets. Although the situation is now calmer in most countries, the economic forecasts for many have been revised downwards. Dr Michael Menhart of Munich Re examines whether this indicates that the emerging-markets boom is coming to an end, and if there is a real risk of a new emerging-markets crisis.
