AIA names new Group CIO, CRO and senior leaders
AIA Group has announced that Mr Mark Konyn will join the company as Group Chief Investment Officer and Mr Tan Hak Leh, who was CEO of AIA Singapore, has been appointed Group Chief Risk Officer, effective this month. Both will join the Group Executive Committee and report to Group Chief Executive & President Mark Tucker. 
   Outgoing Group Chief Investment Officer John Chu will step down this month and retire on 1 December after a period of handover and transition to Mr Konyn. Meanwhile, Mr Patrick Teow has been appointed CEO of AIA Singapore from September, taking over from Mr Tan who will be moving to Hong Kong. 
   Ms Teo Swee Lian has also been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of AIA Group, and will serve as a member of the Risk Committee and Nomination Committee of the company’s Board of Directors. 
 
 
Asia: Allied World Global Markets names Senior VP 
Mr Michael Garrison has been appointed Senior Vice President of Asia Pacific for Allied World Global Markets, a role in which he will report to Mr Julian James, President of Allied World Global Markets. The former will be relocating to Singapore in December and will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the Global Markets insurance operations in the region.
   Mr Garrison will also oversee the implementation of the insurer’s Asia Pacific strategic plan and be responsible for the oversight of the company’s direct insurance offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.
 
 
Asia: Generali appoints new CFO
Generali Asia has appointed Ms Jennifer (Jenni) Sparks as its new Regional Chief Financial Officer and she will report directly to Mr Jack Howell, Regional Officer for Generali Asia. 
   She will be responsible for driving the regional finance and accounting operations as well as monitoring the financial management of the businesses in Asia. She will also oversee activities related to capital allocation, planning and control.
 
 
Asia: Coface unveils senior appointments
Coface has recently announced several new appointments including Ms Victoria Ma who has been named Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Underwriting Officer for Asia Pacific region and Mr Xavier Farcot who has been appointed Executive Vice President, Regional Risk Underwriting Director of Coface Global Solutions for Asia Pacific Region, and will be responsible for underwriting, monitoring and reviewing Coface Global Solutions (CGS) programmes, reporting to Ms Ma.
   Meanwhile, Mr Thomas Yong has also joined Coface as Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer for Asia Pacific. He will manage commercial activities across the Asia Pacific, including new sales, renewal business, customer relationship management and Coface Global Solutions.
   Mr Andrew Ross has been appointed as Senior Vice President, Regional Head of Coface Global Solutions in Asia Pacific. Reporting to Mr Yong, he will lead the Coface Global Solutions team and will be responsible for commercial development and account management of international group clients of the company Coface in in the region. 
 
 
Asia: Manulife names Mr John Brisco for dual role
Mr John Brisco has taken on the roles of Chief Information Officer and Chief Operations Officer for Manulife’s Asia division. 
   Based in Hong Kong, he will be responsible for leading the company’s information functions technology and digital execution strategies in 12 markets across Asia, as well as its regional operations services including talent management and information risk management.
 
 
Asia: New senior appointment at AGCS; Allianz SE reshuffles Board of Management
Mr James Stack has been appointed Regional Manager – Market Management at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) Pacific and will assume his role from 15 September, reporting to AGCS Pacific CEO Holger Schaefer. He succeeds Mr Willem Van Wyk who was recently appointed CEO of AGCS Dubai in May this year.
   Meanwhile, Allianz SE has announced that it would be reducing the size of its Board of Management and Mr Manuel Bauer has stepped down from his role as Member of the Board of Management, responsible for Insurance Growth Markets. From this month, Dott. Sergio Balbinot will take over responsibility for Middle East, North Africa and India, whilst Dr Axel Theis will be responsible for Australia. Central and Eastern Europe will be overseen by Dr Werner Zedelius, and Dr Maximilian Zimmerer will be responsible for Asia.
 
 
Asia: Swiss Re appoints interim China lead, KL head
Swiss Re has announced that Mr Robert Wiest has taken on the role of interim President of China in addition to his current role as Head of Strategy and Operations in Asia. 
   Meanwhile, Mr Randy Hong has been appointed Head of Swiss Re Kuala Lumpur Branch in Malaysia. He will be responsible for developing and growing the reinsurance business in Malaysia and Indochina markets including Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
 
 
Munich Re appoints new business devt head for Southeast Asia
Mr Tobias Frenz has been appointed as General Manager & Head of Business Development in Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. With close to 20 years of experience in the life insurance industry, he will be responsible for developing the life reinsurance business and will also continue to oversee the reinsurer’s retakaful operations in Kuala Lumpur. 
   Meanwhile, Mr JosĂ© Nicolas has been appointed as Managing Director Life Reinsurance in Munich Re’s Dubai office, which services the Gulf region.
 
 
Australia: BHSI makes key appointments with entry into Marine business 
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company (BHSI) has begun underwriting marine insurance in Australia and New Zealand and has appointed Mr Dimitry Zilberud as Head of Marine, and Mr Mark Dixon as Marine Manager. Both will be based in BHSI’s office in Sydney.
 
 
China: Mr Qin Lu joins Aon
Mr Qin Lu has been named CEO for Aon Benfield Greater China and CEO, Aon Risk Solutions China with effect from later this year. The appointment, which is subject to regulatory approval in China, will help to align Aon’s retail and reinsurance business in the region.
   Joining the regional management teams of Aon Benfield and Aon Risk Solutions respectively, Mr Qin will be based in Hong Kong and will report jointly to Mr Malcolm Steingold, CEO, Asia Pacific, Aon Benfield, and Mr Sandeep Malik, CEO, Aon Risk Solutions Asia.
 
 
Hong Kong: Mr John Leung succeeds Ms Annie Choi as Insurance Commissioner 
With Ms Annie Choi being named Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Mr John Leung has been named as her successor, while another former Insurance Commissioner, Mr Clement Cheung, is now the Secretary for the Civil Service.
   Mr Leung, who most currently served as Director for the Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office in Taiwan since December 2011 took over the role from 19 August while Ms Choi moved on to her new appointment concurrently. 
 
 
Hong Kong: Pacific Life Re announces senior appointments
Dr Deepak Gandhi has been announced as Underwriting & Claims Director, Asia, whilst Mr Michael Huang Yu-De is now Head of China at Pacific Life Re. The announcements come as part of the reinsurer’s continued strategy to expand its presence in Asia.
 
 
India: GIC Re names acting Chairman-cum-MD
Mr K Sanath Kumar has been named acting Chairman and Managing Director of India’s state-owned reinsurer GIC Re, in addition to his role as General Manager and Director starting this month. 
   GIC Re’s leadership had been vacant since its former Chairman and MD A K Roy retired last month. Mr Kumar is one of eight candidates shortlisted for the GIC Re top post by the Finance Ministry, which has yet to make a final decision on the appointment.
 
 
Singapore: PIAS names Chief Distribution Officer
Professional Investment Advisory Services (PIAS) has named Mr Winson Yap its Chief Distribution Officer. The role is a new and strategically created function within PIAS and Mr Yap will have primary responsibility to achieve its overall growth intent, meeting revenue objectives as well as a larger share of the LFA market.
 
 
Singapore: Triton Global appoints country head
Multi-disciplinary commercial claims organisation Triton Global, has appointed Ms Simone Shepherd as its new Regional Director in Singapore. 
   Ms Shepherd will be working with the local client base as well as the UK-based clients that Triton works with on global operations. She will report to Mr Neil Sully, Global Head of Claims.
 
 
Argo hires new Global Head of Professional Lines
Specialty insurance and reinsurance underwriter Argo Group International Holdings has hired Mr Steve McGill for its newly created role of Global Head of Professional Lines. 
   Assuming his role this month, Mr McGill will lead Argo’s professional lines business globally, leveraging the collective expertise and capacity across Argo’s entities in the US, London, Bermuda, Europe, Brazil and the Middle East to grow the business profitably.
 
 
Willis Global Wealth Solutions strengthens team
Mr Craig Ellis has been appointed CEO, GWS Singapore. He joins from Old Mutual International where he served as Head of Region and CEO of Singapore and Southeast Asia. GWS has also appointed two new directors for relationship management: Mr Nikki Koh, who will be Channel Manager for GWS Singapore and Mr Benny Tsoi will be Channel Manager for GWS Hong Kong.
   Meanwhile, Mr Santiago Lombardozzi has been appointed to the global position of Head of Products & Solutions for Wills GWS. He will be based in Boston, Massachusetts, where he will lead the development of new products and solutions. 
 
 
Global: A.M. Best has new EMEA Managing Director for Analytics
Ratings agency A.M. Best has announced Mr Gregson Carter as its new Managing Director, Analytics for its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) markets. He will be based in London, with responsibility for A.M. Best’s analytical teams and ratings in the EMEA region from this month and will report to Mr Roger Sellek, CEO, EMEA & Asia Pacific.
