Pakistan: State Life to operate Premier's national health insurance programme

The Pakistani government has selected State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan to implement the Prime Minister’s National Health Insurance Programme in coordination with the Ministry of Health.
The insurance company will be enrolling programme beneficiaries, empanelling hospitals, and providing health insurance services to enrolled families, reported The News International.
“The selection of State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan has been done through an open and transparent bidding process,” Minister of State for Health Saira Afzal said at a proposal evaluation meeting.
Three groups were shortlisted for the health insurance programme, namely, State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan, Jubilee General Insurance and a consortium formed by Adamjee Insurance and Alfalah Insurance.
It is estimated that as many as 3.1 million families (19 million individuals) living in 23 districts below the poverty line will be provided access to free indoor healthcare services under the programme.
