Those interested in a job in the insurance sector stand to gain from Hong Kong’s ageing population as insurers step up recruitment of sales agents to meet rising demand for medical and life insurance.
The sector, which employed more than 88,000 people last year, up from around 79,000 last year, is tipped to see a manpower force exceeding 100,000 this year, according to a report in the Hong Kong Economic Journal.
Another noticeable trend is more mainland Chinese are coming to Hong Kong to buy insurance products. They accounted for 20% of the premiums the industry collected in the first half of this year from individual clients, according to government data. This has prompted insurance companies to recruit mainland immigrants in Hong Kong as they expand their sales teams.
Aside from sales staff, the industry is also going to need more back-office personnel to handle claims and other functions.
