Obituary - Taiwan: Insurance veteran Jack Tai passes away

Mr Jack Tai, Chairman of South China Insurance Company has passed away. He died on the evening of 9 December.
 
   Mr Johnny Li, Deputy Secretary General of the Insurance Society of ROC of which Mr Tai was Chairman at the time of his death, informed the industry of the unfortunate news. Mr Li said: “This is a bitter loss to his family and to the insurance industry of Taiwan.”
 
   Mr Tai joined South China Insurance, which is a subsidiary of Hua Nan Financial Holdings, in 1974. Prior to his appointment as Chairman of the company in 2009, he had served in various positions, including Department Manager, Vice President, Managing Director and Vice Chairman.
 
   Throughout his career, Mr Tai played an active role in the insurance industry. He was the Chairman of the Non-Life Underwriters Society of the Republic of China (ROC) (NLUS) from 2005 to 2011. NLUS is a non-profit organisation, with functions similar to the CPCU in the US and the ACII in the UK. In recognition of his distinguished achievements and outstanding professional skills, he was elected as Chairman for the Non-Life Insurance Association of the ROC (NLIA) in August 2010 and had served for one more term since August 2013. Mr Tai had also been the Chairman of Insurance Society of the ROC since June 2011.
 
   In addition, Mr Tai was a Director of Hua Nan Financial Holdings, a Director of the Taiwan Insurance Institute, a Director of The Insurance Stabilization Fund, a Director of Taiwan Residential Earthquake Fund and a Director of The Insurance Anti-Fraud Institute of the ROC. He had also been President of the East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC) since 2014 and a Board Member of the International Insurance Society (IIS).
 
    Mr Tai received a diploma from the College of Insurance, New York, and an Executive MBA degree in finance from National Taiwan University.
