EAIC 2016 - Championing industry renewal and innovation

Source: Asia Insurance Review | Aug 2016

If the premise of insurance is to be prepared for certain sureties, then it stands to reason that the upcoming 2016 East Asian Insurance Congress (EAIC) will be the perfect platform to highlight the need to be at the ready for a particular eventuality – that of industry renewal and the need to continually infuse new blood.

The biannual EAIC will launch a “Young Insurance Practitioners Programme” when insurance industry players meet in Macau come 11-15 October as part of the 28th edition of the regional gathering.

With the goal of developing promising young talents that will rejuvenate and invigorate the Congress as the older generation retires, the programme will see all 12 member cities of the EAIC each nominating two young insurance practitioners – one each from life and non-life – aged below 35 with at least three years of experience in the insurance industry, to attend the Congress free of charge.

There will be a welcome reception happening on 12 October where the young nominees will be formally introduced. They will then share their views on the Congress two days later and submit three improvement suggestions each to the Congress.
Bringing innovation to the table(t)

As a call to the industry to actively embrace technology, delegates will be presented with tablets, pre-loaded with all relevant materials, including presentations by speakers, hotel information, local maps and tourist information and much more, said Mr Chris Ma, Chairman, Organizing Committee, 28th East Asian Insurance Congress.

This will be a first for the EAIC.

Commenting on the theme of this year’s congress which is, “The Future of Insurance: Customer Centricity”, Mr Ma said: “A healthy development of the industry depends largely on whether we are able to anticipate what customer needs will be. We will have a full programme to help us gain a better insight into who our customers are, how we can serve them better, what role technology plays, what impact the ageing population may have, and what the ultimate operating model is in an ever-changing market place.”

So sign up to be part of the largest gathering platform for East Asian insurance practitioners, be it catch up with old industry associates, make new contacts or to just soak in all the hospitality that Macau has to offer!
