Chubb makes three senior appointments in Asia Pacific
Mr Michael Peacock has been appointed head of energy & power, Asia Pacific, in Chubb. He will relocate from Sydney to Singapore. His responsibilities will include overseeing the inland transit portfolio.
 
   Mr Stephen Hanna is the new energy & technical lines manager for Australia & New Zealand. In his new role, Mr Hanna will report to Mr Peacock and Mr Peter Kelaher, head of property & casualty, Australia & New Zealand. 
 
   Mr Michael Frazer is now head of property, Asia Pacific. In his new role, Mr Frazer will continue to be based in Singapore, and will report to Mr Jason Keen, whom he had replaced, the latter having been recently promoted to regional head of property & casualty, Asia Pacific.
 
 
Asia: XL Catlin reveals new hires
XL Catlin has appointed Mr Wilson Yeo as property manager for their Singapore insurance operations. Mr Yeo has 23 years of experience as a P&C underwriter. 
 
   Mr Jamie Chambers has been appointed country manager for Hong Kong. He assumes the role in addition to his duties as regional product leader for Asia Pacific in the field of aerospace insurance.
 
   In New York, XL Catlin has hired Mr Ronnell Agatep as global head of underwriting in its newly launched global retail accident and health insurance business. In this newly created role, Mr Agatep will work to drive product development and underwriting guidelines for the business 
unit. 
 
 
Asia: Lennard Yong to lead JD Group’s insurance business as Regional CEO
Tongchuang Jiuding Investment Management Group Co Ltd (JD Group) has announced that Mr Lennard Yong has joined them as Regional CEO of its insurance business, based in Hong Kong. He will work with key partners in JD Group to expand the insurance business across key markets in Asia. Its wholly-owned subsidiary FTLife Insurance Company Limited is one Hong Kong’s largest life insurance companies. 
 
   Mr Yong was previously CEO of Hong Kong for global insurance conglomerates, such as ING Group and MetLife. 
 
 
Asia: TransRe appoints North Asia operations Head
TransRe has appointed Mr Zheqiang Xie as Head North Asia. In this newly created position, he will oversee the operations of TransRe’s Hong Kong Branch Office and Shanghai Representative Office. 
 
   Mr Xie has more than 25 years of industry experience, having held senior management positions with PICC, China Re, Lloyd’s and most recently as CEO of XL Insurance (China) Company Limited in Shanghai.
 
 
Asia: Aspen Re names new lead
Aspen Re has appointed Mr Philip Hough as managing director for the Asia Pacific region. Mr Hough will replace Mr Thomas Lillelund, who previously headed up the carrier’s Singapore operation before being promoted to CEO of Aspen Re.
 
   Since January 2015, Mr Hough has been Aspen’s global product head for international property pro rata and per risk treaty. He has also been in charge of Aspen’s European property treaty business since 2007, when the reinsurer opened its Zurich branch.
 
 
Asia: Coface strengthens its Asian organisation with appointment of new APAC CEO
Coface has appointed Mr Bhupesh Gupta to run its Asia Pacific operations. Mr Gupta is now based in Hong Kong and has joined Coface’s Executive Committee, following a long career in GE Capital. 
 
   Mr Gupta has 25 years of international experience in credit, origination and risk management and was GE Capital Asia Pacific’s Chief Risk Officer/Chief Credit Officer prior to this new role.
 
 
Willis Towers Watson replaces Australasia lead and strengthens Asia Pacific and UK team
Mr Andrew Boal has been appointed Regional Head of Australasia for Willis Towers Watson, following Mr Tony Barber’s departure. Mr Boal was Australia MD of Towers Watson prior to the merger with Willis.
 
   In Asia, Ms Patricia Pang and Mr Kirk Lee have joined the company as executive directors in its financial solutions division. They are based in Hong Kong and Singapore respectively.
 
   Ms Pang will be the financial solutions credit insurance product leader for North Asia and will support clients by focussing on credit, receivable finance, and supply-chain finance. Mr Lee comes in as financial solutions regional financial institutions product leader. He will be expected to drive the company’s regional financial institutions business with a focus on trade credit. 
 
   In UK, Mr Colin Forrest has been appointed to lead the Life team there. This follows a number of recent appointments including Mr Matthew Ford, Mr Gary Williams, Mr Steve Hardwick, Ms Heloise Rossouw and Mr Marcus Bowser, as the company continues to enhance its presence and impact across the insurance markets in the UK and globally.
 
   Willis Towers Watson has also appointed Mr Ashwin Belur and Mr Dhiran Dookhi to their insurance investment solutions group in UK. Mr Dookhi most recently served as a risk actuary working on enterprise risk management at Prudential. Mr Belur has almost 30 years of industry experience and joins Willis Towers Watson from BlackRock Inc.
 
 
Hong Kong: AXA Asia appoints new CEO of Life & Savings and Distribution
Mr Etienne Bouas-Laurent has been appointed CEO of Life & Savings and Distribution of AXA Asia, reporting directly to Mr Jean-Louis Laurent Josi, Regional CEO of AXA Asia and to Mr Paul Evans, Group CEO, AXA Global Life, Savings & Health. He will be based at the Regional head office in Hong Kong.
 
   Mr Etienne also has country management responsibilities to ensure both General Insurance and Life & Savings entities in Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia are strategically aligned to support the profitable growth of each market.
 
 
Hong Kong: Sun Life Financial makes new appointments
Sun Life Financial has appointed Mr Ritesh Sarda as Chief Information Officer in Hong Kong. Mr Sarda will report to Mr Shiney Prasad, Senior VP, Enterprise Services Sun Life Asia and Mr Jason Dehni, CEO Sun Life Hong Kong.
 
   Mr Julian Anderson has been appointed Head of Strategic Delivery & Digital Transformation. He will also report to Mr Dehni.
 
   Mr David Varley has been appointed as Chief of High Net Worth & Wealth Structuring (Asia) in Hong Kong. He will be responsible for building the industry’s leading service and holistic solutions platform for the High Net Worth Client segment for Sun Life Asia. 
 
 
India: Reliance Nippon Life Insurance reveals new CEO
Mr Ashish Vohra has taken up the CEO position of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance which was vacant since Mr Anup Rau left in June 2016. Mr Vohra was previously the Senior Director & Chief Distribution Officer of Max Life Insurance for more than six years.
 
 
South Korea: JLT Re has new CEO
JLT Re has appointed Mr Jong Kuk Moon as CEO of JLT Re Korea. Mr JK Moon will be based in JLT Re’s Seoul office and will report to Mr Kenny Moyes, CEO, JLT Re Asia.
 
   Mr Kenny Moyes, CEO, JLT Re Asia said: “JK Moon will oversee JLT Re Korea’s ongoing strategy and business development across Treaty, Facultative, Analytics and Strategic Advisory on behalf of our core clients in Korea. With 23 years at Korean Re, JK Moon’s wide knowledge and experience of the property, marine, aviation, liability and various mutual (re)insurances, notably in the government sector, makes him the ideal person for JLT Re’s continued growth in the Korean market.” 
 
 
Malaysia: JLT Re appoints Garnett as Managing Director
JLT Re announced the appointment of Mr Jonathan Garnett as managing director of their Malaysia branch. Mr Garnett will be based in JLT Re’s Kuala Lumpur office and will report to Mr Stuart Beatty, CEO, JLT Re APAC.
 
   In this new role, Mr Garnett will be leading JLT Re’s recently established Malaysian business, building a team to service domestic carriers in Malaysia. He will also be responsible for helping grow JLT Re’s footprint in the wider Asia Pacific region. Mr Garnett has over 30 years of (re)insurance experience, 19 of which were based in Malaysia.
 
 
Singapore: Angela Kelly appointed as Lloyd’s Country Manager
To support the continued expansion of the Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance market, Lloyd’s has announced the appointment of Ms Angela Kelly as Lloyd’s Country Manager, Singapore.
 
   This role supports Lloyd’s Vision 2025 growth priorities in this region and Ms Kelly will lead and co-ordinate the activities of the strong market development and regulatory and compliance teams who support and oversee the Lloyd’s marketplace in Singapore. 
 
   Ms Kelly will be based at Lloyd’s regional offices in CapitaGreen, Singapore from 14 November 2016. She joins Lloyd’s from Swiss Re where she was CEO of Swiss Re International SE Singapore Branch and Head of Casualty for Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, Asia Pacific.
 
 
Global: Markel UK hires managing director and head of reinsurance claims
Specialist insurer Markel International has appointed Mr Neil Galjaard as divisional managing director of Markel UK for their regional business in the UK.
 
   Mr Galjaard will have overall responsibility for the development and growth of the business, which consists of Markel UK, the regional insurance operation, Abbey Tax, the accountants’ fee protection insurer and tax consultancy, and Abbey Legal, the legal expenses insurance and legal advice business.
 
   Markel has also appointed Mr Chris O’Shea as head of reinsurance claims. Mr O’Shea will oversee a portfolio of claims including those from the reinsurance teams based in London, Singapore and Latin America, as well as a portfolio of legacy claims. He has 17 years of technical claims handling experience.
 
 
Global: Ergo names new head of international business
Mr Alexander Ankel has been appointed as CEO of Ergo International, replacing Mr Jochen Messemer who will leave the company at the end of the year. 
 
   Mr Ankel’s international insurance business knowledge and experience are seen to boost Ergo, which operates in more than 30 countries. Prior to this appointment, Mr Ankel was heading the insurance holding company of Khazanah Nasional Berhad in Malaysia as group CEO. He had also led Allianz subsidiaries in Turkey, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore before that.  
 
 
Global: Sompo Canopius Re appoints head of continental Europe and expands A&H team
Mr Thierry Pelgrin has been appointed Head of Continental Europe at Sompo Canopius Re. He will develop Sompo Canopius Re’s existing property, casualty and marine treaty reinsurance capabilities in continental Europe and lead the reinsurance firm’s underwriting team in Zurich, working closely with the London team.
 
   They have also expanded their accident and health (A&H) team with the hire of Ms Karen Vizard as international medical expenses underwriter. In her new role she will focus on the US in particular.
 
 
Global: Beazley adds to international team
Beazley announced that Mr Christophe Paulin will join it as an aviation underwriter, managing its aviation business in France and developing its aerospace/products portfolio worldwide. He will be based in Beazley’s Paris office following an initial period in London.
 
   They have also appointed Mr Rafael Sanchez as Beazley Breach Response Services (BBR Services) Manager, International, to manage the breach response services provided with its quickly growing international data breach business. Beazley has helped clients handle over 4,000 breaches since the launch of its flagship product, Beazley Breach Response, in 2009.
 
 
QBE appoints new global heads of Bancassurance, Strategic Development and Information
QBE has announced the appointment of Mr Markus Nordlin as the newly created role of Global CIO, based in New York City.
 
   In this role, Mr Nordlin will be responsible for IT strategies across the 37 countries in which QBE operates. Mr Nordlin will serve as a member of QBE’s global operations leadership team, providing a platform for alignment of the IT function to meet business needs and expectations throughout the group. 
 
   Mr Nordlin has more than 20 years’ experience in information technology leadership, including 16 years serving in senior roles at Zurich Insurance in Switzerland and the United States. 
 
   Mr Marcelo Teixeira will take on a dual role as the Global Head of Bancassurance for QBE Insurance Group and the Head of Strategic Development for the Emerging Markets Division. He is based in São Paulo, Brazil. 
 
   As Global Head of Bancassurance, Mr Marcelo will be responsible for driving QBE’s strategy and growth in partnering with banks across multiple markets globally. To further expand this strategically important business for QBE, Mr Marcelo will provide oversight of the global Bancassurance strategy and operation with an aim to increase QBE’s share in personal, SME and specialty lines of insurance business. 
 
   And as the Head of Strategic Development for Emerging Markets, Mr Marcelo will be responsible for identifying business opportunities and solutions, cross-regional synergies and collaboration opportunities to take growth of the Emerging Markets Division to the next level by further leveraging the profitable growth strategy.
 
 
Global: Lemonade hires chief underwriting officer
Former Liberty Mutual executive Mr John Peters has joined Lloyd’s-backed peer-to-peer insurer Lemonade as its chief underwriting officer, and described the technology-driven enterprise as “the place to lead transformational change”. 
 
   Mr Peters is responsible for insurance product terms and conditions, pricing levels, risk and concentration management, and reinsurance strategy.
 
 
Global: Zurich unveils President for new commercial insurance unit 
Zurich Insurance Group AG has named Mr James Shea as head of a new unit that will combine its corporate and commercial businesses as part of its efforts to streamline the organisation. 
 
   Mr Shea joins from American International Group Inc. where he headed global financial lines, the company said in a statement. He previously was President of Global Specialty Lines and CEO of Commercial Lines in Asia for AIG.
