The 5th Lloyd's Day in China

Lloyd’s China hosted Lloyd’s Day in Beijing on 28 October, a meet-the-market event and the largest one for Lloyd’s globally. Now in its fifth year, Lloyd’s China Day welcomed more than 500 guests from Lloyd’s syndicates, brokers, and insurers from the local and international markets.
 
   Mr Eric Gao, Head of Lloyd’s Greater China Region and Chairman and CEO of Lloyd’s China, kicked off the event with a welcome speech. He iterated significant achievements Lloyds’ has made in China market in recent years and the new strategies of Greater China Region.
 
   Lloyd’s Chairman John Nelson made a keynote speech focusing on the main theme of the event “New Tech, New Risk, New Opportunity – The Future of Insurance”. Mr Nelson shared insightful observations on the challenges insurance sector is facing globally and how Lloyd’s is innovatively responding to them by taking advantage of its expertise and global network.
 
    Four external distinguished guests were invited to make speeches to the event – Mr Xuesong Cong, Chairman and CEO of Huatai, Mr Robert Wallin, Customer Financing Solutions Executive Director of Huawei Tech Investment Company, Dr Kai-Uwe Schanz, Special Advisor of The Geneva Association, and Mr David Brosnan, Chief Executive of CNA Hardy. 
 
   They discussed how the Chinese P&C companies can remain profitable and competitive, how Lloyd’s has been supporting China’s overseas interest, how to harness digital technology to narrow insurance protection gaps, and how to leverage Lloyd’s flexible business model and risk management to bring syndicates’ expertise to local markets quickly and efficiently.
 
   In the afternoon, a total of 13 workshops were hosted by Lloyd’s syndicates on a variety of classes of business and hot topics in the insurance industry, including marine liability, construction consortium, litigation property preservation liability, warranty and indemnity, and how reinsurers price.
