Nat CATs' 2016 insured losses at US$39.5 bln is highest in 4 years, says Willis Re

Insured loss estimates from major natural catastrophes reached US$39.5 billion in 2016, said Willis Re in a report. This is the highest level since 2012, when market losses totalled US$60 billion. 
 
   The largest single insured loss event of 2016 was Japan’s Kumamoto earthquake in April 2016, from which losses exceeded $4.8 billion. 10,000 casualties were reported during 2016.
