Asia: Pacific Life Re appoints regional alternative distribution leader
Pacific Life Re announced the appointment of Mr Joe Durkan to lead their increased focus on alternative distribution.
 
   Based in Singapore, this newly created role will leverage Mr Durkan’s experience across all aspects of the business, encompassing marketing, multi-channel distribution, business development, transformation, risk and product. He will work alongside Mr Jeff Cook, head of underwriting and claims, product and Southeast Asia marketing.
 
   Mr Durkan has over 30 years of experience in financial services, the most recent 22 years being in Asia Pacific market.

Asia: McLarens Aviation announces Asia Pacific hires and Shanghai presence
McLarens Aviation has boosted its Asia Pacific team with the addition of three aviation adjusters across the region in recent months. Mr James Pryor and Mr Graham Raggett have both joined the team in Singapore and Mr Jerry Qin has become the aviation loss adjuster’s first full time presence in Shanghai. All are qualified aircraft engineers with experience working with some of the region’s largest airlines.

Australia: BMS names new CEO and COO
BMS announced that Mr Andrew Godden has taken up his role as CEO of Australia. Based in Sydney, he reports directly to Mr Nick Cook, CEO of BMS Group. Mr Dylan Wilkinson has been appointed as COO of BMS Australia reporting to Mr Godden.
 
   Mr Godden has spent over 30 years in the insurance industry and has an established reputation in local markets, based on an entrepreneurial track record of building insurance businesses. Most notably, in 2003, he co-founded Specialist Broking Associates. Since its 2010 purchase by Arthur J. Gallagher, Mr Godden was CEO of Australia for the combined business.
 
   Mr Wilkinson was latterly director of operations at the Corporate Playground, having previously held similar senior roles with wealth manager AMP.

Australia: New CXO for Claim Central Consolidated named
Claim Central Consolidated (CCC) has appointed Ms Karla Wasinski as chief experience officer (CXO), based in Sydney.
 
   Reporting to global chief executive Brian Siemsen, the newly created CXO position will see Ms Wasinski continue to strengthen the company’s commitment to continuous improvement in digital claims management and drive a customer-first approach to business processes across CCC’s services, technology and people.
 
   Ms Wasinski has more than 15 years’ experience working in the Australian insurance industry in a broad range of senior management roles across: process enhancement, quality assurance and claims management. Most recently, Ms Wasinski spent three years at Hollard Insurance as head of process enhancement.

Australia: Clyde & Co appoints new partner in Sydney
Global law firm Clyde & Co has appointed leading insurance and cyber security practitioner Mr John Moran as a partner, based in Sydney.
 
   Mr Moran moved to Australia in 2012, having practised in London and Dublin, where he specialised in contentious insurance. Along with being admitted in New South Wales, Mr Moran is admitted in Ireland, England and Wales. He was made a partner at his former firm in May 2016. His practice encompasses cyber security and IT liability, professional indemnity, financial institutions and directors and officers, which complements Clyde & Co’s insurance footprint in Australia. 

Hong Kong: HKFI appoints new office bearers for 2018/2019
The Hong Kong Federation of Insurers (HKFI) announced the appointment of its governing Committee for the term 2018/2019. Mr Pui-leung Chan of China Taiping Insurance (HK) has been named chairman and Mr Praveen Daswani of Generali Worldwide Insurance has been appointed as deputy chairman.
 
   Mr Chan has over 30 years’ experience in general insurance with expertise in underwriting and marketing. Mr Daswani has gained experience in the international financial services sector having worked at both regional and international levels in various management roles encompassing business development, operations and compliance.
 
   Under the governing committee of the HKFI, there are two councils responsible for dealing with all technical matters concerning general insurance and life insurance respectively. 

Malaysia: PIAM announces 2018/2019 management committee members
Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) has re-elected Mr Antony Lee, CEO of AIG Malaysia Insurance as chairman and Mr Chua Seck Guan, CEO, MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) as the deputy chairman at its 40th annual general meeting held on 20 April 2018.
 
   In addition to the chairman and deputy chairman, seven CEOs of member companies of PIAM have been elected on the management committee for 2018/2019: 
  • Mr Emmanuel Nivet (AXA Affin General Insurance)
  • Mr Ng Kok Kheng (Great Eastern General Insurance (Malaysia))
  • Ms Defne Turkes (Liberty Insurance)
  • Mr Zainudin Ishak (Malaysian Reinsurance)
  • Mr Kong Shu Yin (RHB Insurance)
  • Mr Chris Kurinsky (QBE Insurance)
  • Mr David Fike (Zurich General Insurance Malaysia)

Philippines: Sun Life Financial names new CEO
Sun Life Financial has announced that Sun Life CEO and country head in the Philippines Riza Mantaring will retire from her current role on 30 June 2018 after a distinguished career of 26 years – including nine years as CEO – with unprecedented growth in the Philippines. Under her leadership, Sun Life became the number one life insurance company in the Philippines for the first time in the company’s history and has held that market position for the past seven years. Mr Benedict Sison, currently chief strategy and financial management officer for Sun Life Philippines, will succeed Ms Mantaring to continue Sun Life’s plans to grow in the Philippines as part of a larger growth strategy for Asia.
 
   As CEO, Ms Mantaring has been a visionary in helping Sun Life to connect with more Filipinos by using innovation, technology and creative marketing campaigns to grow the client base from just under 1m to 3.6m people today. At the same time, the agency force more than quadrupled to over 11,000 advisors. She will stay connected in a new role as chair of the holding company of Sun Life’s businesses in the Philippines to engage with clients, employees, agents and industry professionals..

Singapore: Markel hires new underwriters
Markel International has appointed Mr Nicholas Davies as trade credit underwriter and senior risk analyst in Singapore.Mr Davies reports to Mr Abhishek Chhajer, head of Asia Pacific trade credit business and will focus on developing Markel’s portfolio across the region, in addition to managing existing broker and client relationships.
 
   The company has also appointed Ms Lin Wanshi as assistant marine underwriter to join the marine underwriting team in its Singapore office.
 
   The appointment reflects Markel’s ambitions in marine, one of its core markets, in addition to further enhancing its underwriting capabilities in the Asia Pacific.
 
   Ms Lin joins Markel from insurance broker Marsh, where she identified and developed market penetration strategies in the marine hull and liability market and serviced direct and facultative reinsurance clients across the region.

Singapore: Charles Monat announces new CEO
Charles Monat Associates announced that Mr Martin Wong will join the operational committee of the Charles Monat Group, effective 5 November 2018.
 
   Mr Wong will join Charles Monat as Singapore CEO, as well as becoming a partner and shareholder for the Charles Monat Group, subject to regulatory approval. In this new role, he will be responsible for managing the expansion of Charles Monat’s business in Southeast Asia covering both the international business and new domestic markets. He will report to Mr Yves Guélat, group CEO.
 
   Mr Wong joins Charles Monat from Jardine Lloyd Thompson Private Client Services where he served since 2010 as general manager, deputy chief executive, and then as CEO Singapore. In these roles, he led the expansion of the high net worth business and was responsible for the strategic direction of the company, key partner relationships and opening of new domestic offices in Southeast Asia. He also served as vice president at Merrill Lynch, based in New York, USA. 

Global: Aon strengthens key leadership roles with new appointments
Aon has strengthened both the leadership of its SME/mid-market solutions and its sales, marketing and growth capabilities with two key senior internal appointments. They have announced the appointment of Mr Kevan Johnston as managing director, commercial and has expanded Mr Scott Willmot’s role as chief growth officer to incorporate the responsibilities of the chief commercial officer.
 
   During the 12 months spent in his role as Aon United chief growth officer, Mr Willmot has driven a firm-wide focus on industry groups and joint sales efforts. He also brought together Aon’s two marketing teams and managed its growing sports partnership programme. In his expanded role, Mr Willmot will align sales, marketing and bid management teams and continue to chair the Aon United board.
 
   Both Mr Willmot and Mr Johnston will officially step into their roles from the close of second quarter of this year.

Global: HSBC Insurance appoints Alistair Chamberlain as global head of product and actuarial
Mr Alistair Chamberlain joined HSBC Insurance as global head of product and actuarial.
 
   Mr Chamberlain will lead the development and management of all product solutions manufactured by HSBC and oversee partner-sourced insurance products and services for the group. Mr Chamberlain will also lead the chief actuary teams globally.
 
   Mr Chamberlain has over 20 years of global insurance experience, with deep knowledge of Asia. He joins HSBC from AIA, where he held various senior leadership roles including (most recently) CFO Singapore, regional business development director and group head of product strategy.
 
   Before AIA, Mr Chamberlain was the regional head of products and marketing for Aviva. He is currently the chair of the life insurance association tax committee in Singapore, serves on the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants’ insurance committee and is a fellow of the Actuarial Societies in UK, Singapore and Hong Kong. A
