Asia: Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance appoints new head of business in Australasia and new head of UK and Europe
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) announced the appointment of Mr Mark Lingafelter as president, BHSI, Australasia. He is taking over from Mr Chris Colahan, who is moving into the role of president of the specialty insurance operation in the UK and Europe.
 
Mr Lingafelter, who will be based in BHSI’s Sydney office, was most recently chief underwriting officer, Asia Pacific for QBE Insurance. Before that he spent more than 11 years as managing director at Chubb Insurance Company of Australia.
 
Mr Colahan joined BHSI in February 2015, previously serving as the CEO of Asia and Hong Kong, for the RSA Insurance Group. He will be based in London.

Asia: AIA announces group chief digital officer
AIA has announced the appointment of Mr Daisuke Iwase as group chief digital officer and a member of the AIA Group executive committee, with effect from 1 July.
 
Mr Iwase currently serves as president of Lifenet Insurance, a listed digital direct life insurance company in Japan. He co-founded Lifenet in 2006 and took the company public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2012.
 
Mr Iwase started his career as a strategy consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Tokyo before establishing the Japan office of a US-based technology venture capital firm and working in an international private equity firm. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an LLB from The University of Tokyo.

Asia: ARTS adds former GIC Re chairman Yogesh Lohiya to the board
Asia Risk Transfer Solutions (ARTS) announced the appointment of Mr Yogesh Lohiya, former chairman and managing director of General Insurance Corporation of India (GIC Re), as a member of the company’s board of directors.
 
Mr Lohiya is a prominent figure in the Asia insurance industry with more than four decades of experience under his belt. He started his career with India’s state-owned insurer The Oriental Insurance Company in 1977. There, he served in many technical departments at various capacities and subsequently assumed the role of GM in the company.
 
From 2007 to 2011, Mr Lohiya was appointed the chairman and managing director of India’s national reinsurer GIC Re. He also served as the managing director and CEO of IFFCO Tokio General Insurance, one of the largest private insurance companies in India, from 2013 to 2017.

Asia: XL Catlin promotes new client and distribution lead
XL Catlin’s insurance operations announced the appointment of Ms Zoe Xie as client and distribution leader for Asia, effective 28 May.
 
In this role, Ms Xie will be responsible for delivering client and broker strategies specifically for the Singapore and Hong Kong businesses, thereby fostering relationships with brokers and clients within Asia. She will be based in Singapore. Ms Xie joins XL Catlin from Willis Towers Watson, where she most recently held the position of divisional director, broking, Asia. Prior to this, she held various positions, specifically in the property and casualty line of business with Willis Towers Watson in both Singapore and London. 

Asia: Swiss Re appoints regional head of life and health business management
Swiss Re has appointed Mr Chee Foo to its regional life and health leadership team as regional head of life and health business management Asia. Based in Singapore, he will lead a team of actuarial, accounting and claims management professionals across the region to manage the in-force business operations of Swiss Re’s life and health portfolios.
 
He is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, who joined Swiss Re in 2002 and has performed a variety of roles since then, including project lead for a group risk project in Australia, CRO Australia, regional operations director, and, most recently, as regional pricing actuary in Asia leading the central pricing team and covering markets in Southeast Asia, India, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Australia: McLarens names head of property division and expands team
McLarens has announced Mr Stuart Crofton as head of its property loss adjusting division in Australia, which includes offices in Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and Sydney. Accompanying this appointment, Mr Tom Murphy, formerly of Cunningham Lindsey, joins the firm’s Brisbane property team as senior adjuster and Mr Arjun Masters, previously of FAS Global, joins as financial lines executive adjuster based in Melbourne.
 
A specialist adjuster with 22 years’ experience, Mr Crofton’s career has spanned London and Sydney, with numerous overseas assignments. He specialises in major and complex property claims and has acted on losses of all classes across a range of industries including manufacturing, industrial and public sector.
 
Mr Murphy joins the team with 10 years’ experience handling property claims across the commercial spectrum and Mr Masters, with qualifications in accountancy has extensive industry experience in business interruption losses, fidelity guarantee and tax audit claims.

Australia: ANZIIF appoints Suncorp Group executive to board
The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) announced at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) that Ms Catherine Dixon, executive GM, people experience at Suncorp New Zealand has been appointed to the board.
 
While Ms Dixon joins the Board, ANZIIF also announced the retiring of two board members, Suncorp’s executive manager of customer culture Callan McDonnell and Guy Carpenter vice chairman Paul Allison. Several award winners and members were also recognised for their contribution to ANZIIF and the insurance industry.

Singapore: Marnix appoints new CEO
Marnix Reinsurance Brokers has announced Mr Bob Knight as the new CEO of its Singapore office, effective 2 July. Mr Peter Phillips will also join the company as COO.
 
Current CEO Paul Murphy will be stepping down, but will continue to be associated with Marnix in the foreseeable future, as a consultant on a number of projects, the company said in a statement.

Global: Howden Broking Group appoints new CEO
Howden Broking Group announced the appointment of Mr José Manuel González as CEO of Howden Broking Group effective from 1 October. To facilitate the transition, he will assume the role of deputy CEO with immediate effect.
Mr González is a member of the Hyperion Group executive committee and will continue to report to Mr David Howden. He will retain his role as CEO, Howden Iberoamerica which has 700 employees in eight countries.

Global: Aon reinsurance solutions business names new leader
Aon has announced that Mr Andrew Marcell has been appointed CEO of reinsurance solutions, effective immediately.
In his new role, Mr Marcell will be responsible for managing the existing operations and growth strategy of Aon’s reinsurance solutions business as it begins its brand transition from Aon Benfield. Based in New York, he will continue to report to Mr Eric Andersen, co-president of Aon.
 
He joined Aon in 2015 as head of strategy for Aon Benfield and was appointed president of Aon Benfield in 2017, taking on a wider executive role to support ongoing growth strategies. Prior to joining Aon Benfield in August 2015, he was CEO of Guy Carpenter’s US operations and head of its global facultative business. He was also a member of their board of managers and the international leadership team. Mr Marcell joined its London office in 1990 from Hoare Govett in London, where he was a convertible equity trader.

Global: Guy Carpenter hires new president and global leader of GC Securities, capital markets
Guy Carpenter hired Mr Shiv Kumar as president and global leader of GC Securities, capital markets. Mr Kumar was previously global head of insurance structured finance at Goldman Sachs. His 23 years of experience in the (re)insurance sector and capital markets will enhance GC Securities’ ability to identify and execute convergence capital solutions that help clients manage risk.
 
Reporting to Mr David Priebe, Mr Kumar will oversee the GC Securities capital markets team. GC Securities leaders reporting to Mr Kumar include Mr Cory Anger, global head of ILS origination and structuring, and Mr Chi Hum, global distribution leader.

Global: RMS names new lead for software and platform team
RMS announced that Mr Moe Khosravy has been appointed as the GM of software and platform. He will be responsible for overseeing all software and platform technology at RMS, including RMS(one), the (re)insurance industry’s only purpose-built exposure and risk analytics platform, which supports modular business solutions to deliver cutting-edge scientific insights to the risk decision points across the enterprise.
 
Mr Khosravy is an accomplished leader who brings 20 years of software innovation experience to his role at RMS. He was most recently the VP of software at HP, supporting hundreds of millions of connected devices and clients. He drove innovative platforms for big data, computer vision, and applied ML. Prior to HP, he was head of applications and SDKs at Intel, focused on building experiences differentiated by AI, NLP, and rich sensor technologies. 

Global: Allianz Partners creates two new senior roles for international health
Allianz Partners has announced the creation of two new senior roles for its international health brand, Allianz Care, appointing Mr David Myers as head of global relationships and Mr Thomas Duvernoy as head of global health and protection services.
 
These new appointments signal the company’s commitment to its intermediary channel and to delivering innovative international health and protection services to its customers.
 
Mr Myers has almost 20 years’ experience in the corporate insurance industry, having held numerous management positions across the Allianz Group’s global offices. A chartered insurer, he also holds an MBA from the European School of Management and Technology in Berlin.  
 
Meanwhile, Mr Duvernoy joins from Henner, where he was head of international medical network. Holding an MBA in health from Paris Dauphine University, he has extensive experience in the healthcare sector, having begun his career as an intensive care unit nurse, before going on to run operations for Europ Assistance. A
