Pakistan: 56,000 people die of TB each year

As many as 160,000 tuberculosis (TB) patients a year miss out on medical treatment for the disease, which causes around 56,000 deaths in Pakistan every year.
An official of National TB Control Programme said that around 525,000 new TB cases surface annually in Pakistan while the number of cases under treatment is about 368,600, reported Urdu Point.
He said that Pakistan ranks fourth among countries with a high incidence of multi-drug resistant TB as an estimated 27,000 new cases are reported every year.
He said that the government has paid special attention to this critical issue and strengthened the programme for providing free treatment to TB patients. The treatment success rate is 93%. A
