LIU adds further strength to its operations in Asia 
Mr Noel MacCarthy, executive vice president, Asia Pacific for Liberty International Underwriters (LIU), will relocate to Singapore as LIU continues its focus on building the brand across the larger Asian market place. The move does not affect his Asia Pacific’s role. 
 
AIG appoints senior leaders to key Asia Pacific roles
American International Group Inc (AIG) has appointed Mr Mike Raines as CEO of AIG Insurance New Zealand Ltd. In addition, Mr Raines will serve as Deputy for the Australasia Cluster, which comprises Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. AIG has also appointed Mr Matt Harris to replace Mr Raines as President and CEO of AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte Ltd in Singapore. Mr Harris will continue to serve as Head of the South East Asia Cluster (SEA), which will now include Singapore in addition to Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Guam.
 
Ms Monique Stip has also been named as Chief Financial Officer of AIG Asia Pacific Insurance Pte Ltd in Singapore.
 
Principal International has new Vice President of North Asia
The Principal Financial Group, has appointed Mr Thomas Cheong as Vice President of North Asia for Principal International to match up business development to the core Asia strategies.
 
Mr Cheong will oversee the operations and relationships in mainland China and Hong Kong, and will work closely with Principal Global Investors Asia business partners and joint ventures in the region. He will report directly to Mr Rex Auyeung, President – Asia, Principal Financial Group.
 
New appointment for Munich Re in Southeast Asia
Munich Re has appointed Mr Till Böhmer as CEO for Southeast Asia at Munich Re Singapore. Mr Böhmer joined Munich Re in 2009 and headed up the strategy department for the last four years. 
 
Meanwhile, Mr Bernd Kohn, previously the CEO for Southeast Asia at Munich Re Singapore, has taken up a new role as Chief Executive for Middle East and Africa at Munich Re Munich from 1 January 2015.
 
PartnerRe makes appointments in Asia
PartnerRe has appointed Mr David Li as its Chief Representative in Beijing and Mr Richard Chu as Senior Underwriter, Credit & Surety, Asia Pacific. 
 
Mr Li is responsible for further strengthening PartnerRe’s position in the Chinese market as part of the ongoing reinforcement of PartnerRe’s Asia Pacific operations. Based in Beijing, he reports to Mr Alain Flandrin, CEO PartnerRe Asia.
 
 Mr Chu is responsible for underwriting PartnerRe’s credit and surety business in the Asia Pacific region. Based in Singapore, he reports to Mr Philippe Domart, CUO 
PartnerRe Asia. 
 
Asia: AXA’s ex-CMO spearheads new start-up
AXA Asia’s Regional General Insurance Chief Marketing Officer Matthias de Ferrieres, left the insurance giant in December 2014 to spearhead a local start-up, Stark Group Private Ltd, a company that seeks to deliver disruptive yet easy to operate digital solutions to its insurance clients. 
 
Mr de Ferrieres had joined AXA Asia in 2001 and he had spent almost 15 years in Asia’s insurance industry. 
Marsh appoints Chairman for Pacific region and CEO for Australia
 
Marsh has appointed Mr John Clayton to become chairman for the Pacific Region, while continuing to lead Marsh’s SME strategy in Asia, and Mr Scott Leney will succeed Mr Clayton as CEO Australia. Both Mr Clayton and Mr Leney will report to Mr Martin South, CEO Asia-Pacific. 
 
In his new role, Mr Clayton will be responsible for Marsh businesses in New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea and will work closely with Mr Leney to shape the strategy in Australia. 
 
XL Group appoints aerospace underwriter for China 
XL Group has appointed underwriter Ms Catherine Wang, who is based in Shanghai, China, to provide aerospace insurance solutions in the country. 
Ms Wang joined XL Group from Marsh (Beijing) Insurance Brokers Co where she worked as a Manager in its Aviation and Aerospace Practice. 
 
ME: Qatar Re appoints new Chief Underwriting Officer
Qatar Re has appointed Mr Alastair Speare-Cole as Chief Underwriting Officer. Mr Speare-Cole joins from JLT Re where he served as Chief Executive Officer since 2012. 
 
Mr Speare-Cole replaces Mr Willi Schürch who retires from his current role as Chief Underwriting Officer.
 
Global: RIMS names Society’s 2015 President
RIMS, a leading risk management society has announced that Mr Rick Roberts will lead the Society as president for the 2015 term. 
 
Mr Roberts is the Director of Risk Management and Employee Benefits for Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc. He has been a member of RIMS for 25 years and on its Board of Directors for seven years. 
 
Previously, Mr. Roberts served as the Society’s Vice President and Board liaison to RIMS External Affairs Committee. He is a member of RIMS Connecticut Valley Chapter where he served as the chapter’s president from 1997 to 1998.
 
RGA announces restructuring of Asia Regional Leadership 
As part of a regional organisational restructuring, RGA has announced several leadership changes in its Asian operations, subject to regulatory approvals. 
 
Mr Peter Tan has assumed the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer – Asia. Mr Tan is now responsible for leading multiple functions and ensuring that RGA’s practices are consistent across the entire region.
 
In related moves, Mr Amit Punchhi and Mr Shih Nin Low have also assumed new responsibilities. Mr Punchhi, currently Managing Director and CEO of RGA’s India operations, has been named CEO for RGA’s Hong Kong business and Managing Director with oversight for Singapore and High Net Worth business. He continues to have oversight of RGA’s India operations until a successor is named there.
 
Mr Low, presently CEO of RGA Taiwan, assumed expanded responsibilities as Managing Director, Emerging Southeast Asia markets (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam).
