HKFI launches Young Insurance Executive Development Programme

Source: Asia Insurance Review | Apr 2015

Candidates recruited under the HKFI’s Young Insurance Executive Development Programme (YEDP) have started their training in March. The programme, designed to address the perennial talent deficit faced by the Hong Kong industry, was announced in January this year.

“The industry is suffering from a longstanding problem of talent shortage. We need to attract and groom new blood to support the rapid growth,” said Mr P L Chan, Chairman of the Task Force championing this project under the HKFI.

More than 20 life and general insurance companies have joined the YEDP programme, offering trainee positions across a wide range of business fields, from actuary, claims, to underwriting, policy administration, and customer service.

The programme combines practical on-the-job-training with academic qualifications and targets university graduates or diploma holders with at least one year of work experience. Trainees will divide their week between four days of practical training with their employers, and one day of academic training. Upon successful completion of the course, trainees will receive a “Professional Diploma in Insurance”.

The tuition fee will be fully sponsored by their respective employers and trainees will receive a monthly salary, HKFI said.
