China: Total premium income up 20.4% y-o-y to US$136 bln in 1Q

China’s insurance industry reported total premium income of CNY842.54 billion (US$135.89 billion) in the first three months of the year, a growth of 20.4% y-o-y, according to CIRC data.
The life sector rose 22.95% to CNY644.62 billion, while the P&C sector grew 12.65% to CNY197.92 billion.
Foreign non-life insurers’ share of premium income remains at around 2%, while JV life insurers’ share of the market by premium income grew from 3.73% a year ago to 5.39%.
