Asian News - Philippines: IC Commissioner Dooc named as honorary commissioner of Louisiana

Source: Asia Insurance Review | Dec 2015

Philippines Insurance Commissioner, Mr Emmanuel F Dooc, has been named Honorary Insurance Commissioner of the State of Louisiana in the US by Mr James Donelan, Insurance Commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

The conferment of the honorary title to Mr Dooc is a recognition of his status as an insurance expert and his laudable achievements as the chief insurance regulator of his country. Likewise, it is a testament of the long and enduring friendship of the US and Philippine governments, said the Philippine Insurance Commission in a statement.

While in Louisiana, Mr Dooc sought a special meeting with the Greater New Orleans (GNO), a highly successful NGO which promotes investments and economic development in the region. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005 which wreaked havoc on New Orleans, GNO expanded its role to help in the rehabilitation efforts of the city. Mr Dooc shared the experience of the Philippines in dealing with natural calamities and explained how the country harnesses microinsurance to protect the poor against disasters and mitigate suffering.

Mr Dooc was also admitted to the 2015 International Fellows Program organised by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and The Center for Insurance Policy and Research (CIPR), two prestigious US organisations. NAIC is the national association of all insurance commissioners in the US from 50 states and six territories while the CIPR is the leading research institute for insurance.
