Sri Lanka is one among five emerging countries which has been selected for the development of inclusive mutual insurance for the next five years under an initiative of the UK-headquartered International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF).

The ICMIF 5-5-5 Mutual Microinsurance Strategy aims to reach out to 5 million under-served households in five countries, over five years. The other countries in the programme are the Philippines, Kenya, India and a Latin American nation.

Public Enterprise Development Deputy Minister Eran Wickramaratne said that the countries were selected based on their performance and potential as emerging markets in the insurance industry.
