Asian News - Singapore: Brit opens office on Lloyd's platform

Brit Limited, a global specialty insurer, has opened an office in Singapore that starts operations this month. Brit has received approval to begin underwriting from both Lloyd’s and MAS.
   The office is headed by Mr Charlie Barrett, currently Class Underwriter for War and Terrorism. From Singapore, he will initially write War and Terrorism and Political Risk. He is joined by Mr Hong Onn Ching who will write Construction business.
   Fairfax Financial Holdings, which acquired Brit last year, already has a significant presence in Asia, including through its subsidiary First Capital, the largest (re)insurer based in Singapore.
   Mr Matthew Wilson, CEO of Brit Global Specialty and Brit Group Deputy CEO, said: “Not only is Singapore an exciting hub in its own right, we also see opportunities arising from Fairfax’s significant network in the region and look forward to working closely with other businesses within the Group.”
