Uncertain and turbulent times around the world mean that it is more important than ever for organisations to examine the risk management programmes that they have in place.
The 2016 annual conference and exhibition of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) takes place in San Diego, California from 10-13 April 2016.
What’s new
This year, RIMS ’16 will feature three new session categories – Cyber Risk Management, Emerging Risks and Public Risk Management – in line with the theme of “Go Beyond”. For the first time, there will be three short, TED-style talks on “The Psychology of Illusion – Misdirection”, “3D Innovation: Changing the World One Piece at a Time” and “How to spot a liar”, which will offer unique perspectives on the business world.
On the exhibition floor, what is new is Start Up Central, where new companies with gross revenue of US$20 million and below and fewer than 80 staff will share their products and services with the world’s risk management community.
With disruptions as the order of the day, it seems emerging technologies continue to dominate – following on from 2015, where new innovations, new encounters and new knowledge formed the key thrusts, with lively discussions on the risks of drones, 3D-printing and cyber risks.
New certification
RIMS’16 will also feature the newly launched RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional (RIMS-CRMP) certification where qualifying members will be allowed to take the exam in San Diego.
With RIMS’ ongoing expansion of its international reach, sessions that will provide a global perspective will address global insurance programmes, risk management in Latin America and India, and mitigating risk in foreign markets.
