Asia: Generali appoints new Head of Distribution for region
Generali Asia has appointed Mr Bruce de Broize as new Head of Distribution for Asia and he will report directly to Mr Roberto Leonardi, Regional Officer for Asia.
 
   Based in Hong Kong, Mr de Broize will be responsible for driving growth in Life and P&C businesses across Asia, by formulating and implementing new strategies for all distribution channels.
 
   He brings over 29 years of insurance experience having held senior management roles in both Life and P&C insurance companies in South Africa, Australia, and Asia Pacific (in particular Korea, China, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong).

 
Management changes in Asian Re
Asian Re, Bangkok, has made some management changes, appointing Mr Anil Sant as President and CEO, Mr Md Alamgir Kabir as Executive Vice President and Mrs Nilmini Ekanayake as Vice President (Technical). 
 
   Effective December 2017, Mr Anil Sant has taken over as next President and CEO from Mr S A Kumar who has retired following the completion of his tenure. Mr Sant brings to the job three decades of experiences in reinsurance, having worked in GIC Re, Mumbai, headed London Branch of GIC Re and then Trust Re, Malaysia, where he was Head of Underwriting. 
 
   Mr Md Alamgir Kabir will replace Mrs Champa Mellawa who has completed her tenure in the Corporation. Mr Kabir has two decades of experience in (re)insurance and he was previously from Sadharan Bima Corporation, the national reinsurer of Bangladesh. 
 
   Asian Re has also recruited Mrs Nilmini Ekanayake as vice president (Technical) who has over two decades experience in reinsurance, having held various assignments in USA and Sri Lanka, the last one being with the Fairfax group.

 
Asia: Swiss Re Corporate Solutions announces new regional head
Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has appointed Mr Didier Bélot as Head Southeast Asia. Mr Bélot will be responsible for building on their strong market presence to lead commercial insurance programmes with local servicing capabilities and innovative solutions. He replaces Mr Jonathan Rake, who was promoted to the role of Asia Pacific CEO in July 2017.
 
   Mr Bélot joined Swiss Re Group in 2008 and has held roles in the US, China and Europe. His most recent post was leading the Innovative Risk Solutions team in Asia Pacific. 

 
Chubb makes leadership appointments in Asia Pacific region
Chubb has announced two leadership appointments in the company’s Asia Pacific business. Both appointments will be effective from 1 February 2018 and subject to regulatory approval. 
 
   Mr John French, currently Country President for Australia and New Zealand, has been appointed to the position of Senior Vice President, Head of Broker Distribution for Asia Pacific. In his new role, Mr French will focus on maximising Chubb’s product offering including portfolio-based solutions, facilities, joint product design and execution initiatives with key brokers in the 
region. 
 
   He will continue to be based in Sydney and will report to Mr Jason Keen, Chubb’s Regional Head of Property & Casualty for Asia Pacific. Mr French succeeds Mr Ben Carey, who has been appointed to lead the corporate segment of the company’s international accident and health insurance business. Based in New York, Mr Carey will report to Mr John Thomson, Division President, International Accident & Health, Chubb Overseas General.
 
   Mr Jarrod Hill, presently Executive Vice President, Head of Property for Chubb Overseas General, has been appointed to succeed Mr French as Country President of Australia and New Zealand. Mr Hill returns to the region where he was previously Regional Head of Property & Casualty for Chubb in Asia Pacific until assuming his current position in 2013. Based in Sydney, Mr Hill will report to Mr Paul McNamee, Chubb’s Regional President for Asia Pacific.

 
Australia: Leadership changes at HDI in Property, Power & Energy and Marine 
HDI Global SE in Australasia has announced leadership changes in the business lines of Property, Power & Energy and Marine.
 
   Mr Dale Graf has been appointed as the new Underwriting Manager Property Australasia with effect from 1st February 2018, taking over from Mr Kai Brueggemann who will leave Australia to take over a new international leadership role within the Group. 
 
   Mr Alex Hind will lead the newly created dedicated business line for Energy business as Underwriting Manager Power & Energy Australasia while Mr Joel Mitchell has been appointed as the Underwriting Manager Marine Australasia. 
 
   All three roles report directly to Mr Stefan Feldmann, Regional Head Australasia & ASEAN and Managing Director of HDI Global SE Australia.

 

Australia: Allied World Global Markets appoints new Country Manager

Allied World Assurance Company Holdings, GmbH has appointed Mr Iain MacLeod as Senior Vice President, Country Manager, Australia. He will report to Mr Michael Garrison, President, Asia-Pacific.
 
   Prior to joining Allied World in 2012, Mr MacLeod spent 23 years at Marsh where he held senior positions in London, Bermuda and New York, with responsibilities across a range of business lines as well as for product and business development. 

 
India: Aegon Life appoints new CEO
Aegon Life Insurance in India has appointed Mr Vineet Arora as the Managing Director & CEO, effective January 2018. Mr Arora will replace Mr K S Gopalakrishnan who left the company in November 2017.
 
   Mr Arora has a long association with the ICICI Group and held a number of roles in ICICI Securities.

 
Japan: MAPFRE RE appoints head for new rep office
MAPFRE RE has appointed Mr Jun Matsuoka, an experienced insurance and reinsurance professional based in Japan, to head up its new MAPFRE RE office in Tokyo. 
 
   The new office will strengthen MAPFRE’s presence in Asia, where it already operates from China, Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. 

 
Malaysia: Bank Negara Malaysia appoints new Deputy Governor
Bank Negara Malaysia has announced that the Minister of Finance has approved the appointment of Ms Chew Cheng Lian (Puan Jessica) as Deputy Governor for a three-year term effective 1 January 2018.
 
   Puan Jessica assumes the position of Deputy Governor following the retirement of Dr Sukudhew (Sukhdave) Singh as Deputy Governor on 31 December 2017. 
 
   As Deputy Governor, Puan Jessica will be responsible for the financial sector regulation and development including payment systems, organisational development sector and centralised shared services.
 
   Puan Jessica is currently the Assistant Governor responsible for the development of regulations and policies in the banking and insurance sectors focusing on efficiency, innovation, market institutions and structures, development finance and talent development. She is also responsible for payment systems development and regulation and oversight of the money services business.
 
   Puan Jessica is a member of Bank Negara Malaysia’s Monetary Policy Committee and the Financial Stability Committee.

 
Singapore: Britannia P&I has new head for branch
Britannia P&I has hired former JLT Middle East CEO Mr John O’Flaherty to set up a new branch in Singapore, as the mutual’s manager, Tindall Riley, expands in Asia.
 
   Britannia P&I is acquiring Pandisea in Singapore, its P&I correspondent in the port. Correspondents help P&I members with troubleshooting and support the claims handling process.
 
   Britannia P&I has applied to the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) for a licence to write insurance.

 
Thailand: FWD Group announces new CEO
FWD Group announced the appointment of Ms Poramasiri Manolamai as CEO designate for FWD Thailand, effective 1 January 2018 and subject to regulatory approval. Ms Manolamai will lead FWD’s growing business in Thailand to drive the delivery of its technology-driven customer-led strategy.
 
   Ms Manolamai brings over 25 years’ experience in the Thai insurance industry to FWD. She takes over from Mr Mike Plaxton who will be retiring in 2018 after over 48 years in the industry, half of which have been in Asia.
 
   Ms Manolamai was previously Chief Distribution Officer for Krungthai-AXA Life Insurance, where she led key distribution channels including Agency, Bancassurance, Corporate Solutions, together with Academy, Distribution Transformation. 

 
Global: Aon Benfield hires new Credit & Financial Risks broker
Mr Rupert Evans has joined Aon Benfield’s Credit & Financial Risks team as a broker, effective immediately. Mr Evan was most recently an assistant underwriter within the Treaty Specialty division of Liberty Specialty Markets, and has specialised in underwriting political risk, and credit & surety business, as well as other crisis management lines. 
 
   In his new role, Mr Evans reports to Mr Phil Bonner, head of Aon Benfield’s Credit & Financial Risks team.

 
Global: Swiss Re has new Group CFO
Swiss Re has appointed Mr John Dacey, currently Group Chief Strategy Officer, as Group Chief Financial Officer, effective 1 April 2018. He succeeds Mr David Cole, who will step down to pursue a non-executive career, while remaining a board member of several Swiss Re subsidiaries.
 
   Mr Dacey joined Swiss Re’s Group Executive Committee five years ago as Group Chief Strategy Officer, successfully leading multiple strategic initiatives across the Group. His career in the (re)insurance industry spans more than 20 years, during which time he has held various senior executive positions.
