The second half of the year is always a little frantic as reinsurers and insurers flit around the globe transacting business and endeavouring to squeeze some extra hours into the day. We take a look at some of the places that reinsurers need to be seen this year.

Les Rendez-Vous de Septembre
The unofficial starting pistol to the start of the business season and the end of summer vacations is fired in sunny Monaco as everyone who is anyone in the industry gathers in Monte Carlo for Les Rendez-Vous de Septembre which styles itself as the ‘international rendez-vous of insurance and reinsurance’.
This year marks the 63rd edition of the rendezvous and everything happens between 7 and 12 September with a packed schedule of informative sessions – and plenty of time for bilateral meetings – and, of course, the legendary opening cocktail reception.
Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers Conference
This year sees the 26th Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR) Conference taking place in buzzing Marrakech between 23 and 25 September. FAIR styles itself as a professional business association, dedicated to the cause of regional cooperation and the development of the insurance industry in the Afro-Asian Countries.
The theme of FAIR this year is ‘New economic barriers in Afro-Asian insurance markets’ and will attract a wide contingent from the surrounding Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Singapore International Reinsurance Conference
‘Winds of change’ is the dramatic theme for the 16th Singapore International Reinsurance Conference (SIRC), one of the most anticipated events in the Asian calendar. High-level conference sessions dovetail seamlessly with networking opportunities – and discrete bilateral meetings.
The SIRC has become a magnet for every serious reinsurer in Asia – or with interests in Asia – and is not to be missed.
The China Rendezvous makes a welcome return this year between 5 and 7 November at the Kerry Hotel Pudong, Shanghai with the theme ‘Brave New Era of Reinsurance in China.’
The China Rendezvous will have a special focus on the role of insurance and reinsurance in the Belt and Road Initiative, underwriting profitability, managing natural catastrophes, cyber risks, regulatory issues, governance and compliance, risk management, technology and disruption wave, InsurTech, driverless cars and digital insurance and is sure to attract professionals serious about doing business in and with China.
Not strictly in the second half of the year since the India Rendezvous is the perfect way to kick-start the New Year but the event will be held between 20 and 22 January 2020 in Mumbai and is organised by Asia Insurance Review. Watch this space.
