Thailand:Free crop insurance scheme covers 44% of rice fields

Around 26 million rai (4.16 million hectares) of paddy fields are covered by the government's free crop insurance scheme in the 2016-17 harvest season, according to the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC). This represents 44% of the total of 58.7 million rai of rice fields across Thailand.
